Hendershot and Ferguson kinda showed up again.. I hope Schultz is investing his 11 million well because it's the last big money he's going to see. These kids have really come in and done a nice job. The move Ferguson put on Gardner-Johnson for his score was beautiful to watch. I think both these kids have already surpassed Schultz. Yes he has more knowledge of the offense.. but these kids are play makers and while neither of them is a "great" blocker.. they're already better at it than Schultz.

Really happy to see the play from TE Jake Ferguson

Agreed. I'm really hoping Schultz doesn't just take the majority of snaps when healthy. These guys look legitimate and need to see the field and continue to develop. I'm getting way ahead of myself here, but I would get used to seeing 2TE sets the next few years.

For as much crap as this forum gives Jerry, placing the franchise tag on Schultz and not overpaying him seems to be a terrific move. Gave us TE insurance this year and next year you let Schultz walk and spend that money on other Cowboys free agents that you want to retain and roll with Ferguson and Hendershot.

So while I do not think it happens or that Dallas would receive much interest, but what are the fans thoughts of attempting to trade TE Dalton Schultz before the trade deadline?

While Schultz was franchise tagged, he signed the tag thereby making him available to be traded. He has roughly $7M remaining on his $10.9M franchise tag and Dallas would gain ZERO cap room as all of the tagged salary counts as dead money. However, it would end in a net zero loss/savings. The most Dallas could expect is either a late round draft pick (at best) or including Schultz in a trade package to include additional players or draft pick(s) so as to look into bringing back a player in a need position (DT, LB, OL, WR, etc.).

With Ferguson and Hendershot stepping up and showing more than Schultz this season, in spite of Schultz's PCL knee strain issue could Dallas realistically look at sending him to another team?

I said repeatedly last season that Kellen Moore schemed Schultz open.

I was on-board with the Tag because it meant no long term contract for him.

Ferguson and Hendershot both play with an in your face attitude that is missing with Schultz.

franchising him was moronic. it's just amplified by how easily he's being replaced. shoulda let him walk and kept coop another year

Shultz had the misfortune of a injury to Dak and then he he hurts his PCL. Get him healthy and bring him back Thanksgiving. Ferguson is going to be a good all around tight end while Hendershot will be a solid move tight end. Good job Mclay. I love our tight end room if Shultz regains his health.

I can live with this. Don't repeat the mistake of having a guy tough it out through suck an injury like they did with Zeke. There are a lot of guys in the world who can run 8 yards and turn around.. Schultz is reliable but he's nothing special or unique. Play the youngsters.. throw them the leak outs on the boots and keep them active in the running game..

Seems like a foregone conclusion that Schultz won't be back next year if it holds up. Costing himself a lot of money as well most likely which might actually make him more tangible to bring back cheap on a one-year, prove it deal.

It is gonna take a month but the Cowboys should have a top 10 offense to go along with the top 5 defense by the end of November.

Agreed.. in fact I see no reason why this offense can't be top 5 as well if Moore and Dak can continue the balanced approach that not only won us 4 games but damn near brought us back in this last one. That 15 play 93 yard drive featuring 7 runs and 8 passes was how we should play offense for the rest of the season. To hell with what "the defense gives you." Take what you want.. The Eagles front was as good as any we will see all year yet we rammed it up their arses for 134 yards and over 5 yards a pop. If we take nothing else away from this game it needs to be that we can run the ball when we really want to and commit to it no matter who the opponent is. Respect them.. but no need to fear them and not even TRY running the ball as we have done all too often.

Yeah I had no problem with the tag because I felt you needed a vet especially when Coop left. Schultz just isn't right.

I was going to suggest the same thing. It would be great if Dallas could acquire a starter in a trade by sending Schultz away but like you said right now he is damaged goods. And the fact he's not signed past this year is going to turn teams away.

Future looks bright with those two. How fast we go from no depth at TE to a position you want to see the young bucks play. I’d still rather have a dominant TE but they look like they can do Dalton’s job when healthy by next year. Ferguson showing some moxie out there. If I recall, Witten wasn’t a household name yet during that game he ran with the helmet off. Look forward to more of Ferg’s moments like that sick move.
