while romo may lack the bledsoe cannon-arm - he throws a decent deep ball. that sure-TD hurd dropped against minny in OT was a thing of beauty.

so far tony shows a nice feel for the "touch" throws in the short game, too. he can feather it.

i'd rate his pocket awareness as equal to bledsoe's at the very minimum. his release is compact and quick. and his escapability quotient smokes drew's.

he does have a tendency to free-lance... i.e. the quick shovel - but did you see the pass brad johnson threw last night where, under a fierce rush, he switched the ball from his right hand to his left and got off a sack-saving wobbler for a decent little gain? those kinda plays get me outta my seat.

that said, bledsoe's gonna have to have more than one lousy game to be supplanted.

i'd like to see our backup QB get some PT this season. i'm guessing parcells is wanting to see that, too... and i haven't gotten THAT impression from BP since he got here.

According to Mickey on the "Talking Cowboys" show yesterday at noon. And think about it, when was the last you saw Drew in the shotgun here in Dallas?

I'm sure the Patriots and Bills went through all of these questions too...and both came to the same conclusion....one of which went on to win 3 SBs because of it...

In all fairness the Pats did not have much choice in replacing Bledsoe. But they did see how a more mobile qb can benefit them.

I vaguely remember him saying it other times too. I think he said he prefers to keep his eyes on the defense instead of having to concentrate on catching the ball.

For anyone saying that the team would be ok with Bledsoe getting pulled, just remember who the TEAM VOTED as their captain

Tony Romo, and every other QB in the entire league, gets the snap and sets up to throw about a half second faster than Bledsoe. That makes a huge difference. Tony is ready to make the throw faster. I think Bledsoe's slow set up has a lot to do with him getting sacked so often too.
It looks like he's so worried about getting a clean snap that he delays a half second to make sure. Meanwhile, the defense is getting up the field and closing in. Half a second is huge.
I think Romo has the potential to turn into something special if he gets some confidence going early, he's got some serious moxie....which could turn into swagger

a statue in the shotgun is an open invitation to blitz. i think it's more a case of parcells not liking his chances combining the formation with "captain stationary".

We might of....but Mickey said he doesn't like it, and that is why it wasn't used in the game sunday. Mick was replying to a question that was emailed.

I know Romo uses it, by the famous over the head snap that he turned into a highlight.

[/B][/I]I have never watched Bledsoe, but I saw in Sunday what I have heard from his rep - that he doesn't do well against good defense, that he doesn't find the open receiver, that his footwork is atrocious, and that when he is deer in the headlights, turn out the light, the party is over. My question is - are we as fans prepared to accept the possibility that his first year in Dallas is like his first year in Buffalo, and, that, his second year in dallas will be the same? If so, are we prepared to go with the variable instead, and at least take a chance at something better?
If you have never watched Bledsoe, how can you make such a judgement on one game  I am not a Bledsoe fan, but he is the best QB we've had here for about 7 years. When he is on, he is really good. When he is off, he is really bad. To me, this was only his second bad game that I had seen where he had time, but was still off. His other bad games came when he had no time to throw. I think we can give him a few more games.

Sorry. I had never watched Bledsoe prior to his arrival at dallas with any real consistency.

And in a year here, he has proven his footwork is atrocious.

Questions we fans should ask ourselves before agreeing to a change at the QB position.

How will the team accept the change? A proven vet for a Newby??

I think they'll be o.k. with it. Most of it depends on whether they win with Romo playing. Part of it depends on how well Romo plays. A small part of it depends on how poorly Bledsoe plays prior to the switch.

Will the team follow Mr Romo?

Sure

Does Tony have the leadership skills to be a successfull NFL QB?

Seems likely, but far from being established so far.

Does he have the arm?

Appears to have sufficient arm strength.

Does he have the accuracy?

He's shown good accuracy so far.

If we make this change will the team view the move as me (the coach) as giving up on the season?

Only if the switch happens when the Cowboys are 4-8 (may God forbid). Depends on timing and reason for the switch.

How will TO handle the change? A rook QB!!!!!!! throwing to me the best WR in the universe. would the change light his fuse? or would he accept the change and just play football? (whether you like TO or not that question must be considered)

It would come down to how well Romo played.

We have only seen Tony in preseason games.....In regular season games D coordinators will game plan him. He will have everything thrown at him but the kitchen sink. Can he handle it??????

IMO, he's already a better QB than Quincy Carter. It would all come down to turnovers. Can he avoid the fumbles and interceptions. I don't know.

Feel free to add your own set of questions

1. Realistically, how far are the Cowboys likely to go with Bledsoe as the QB?

2. How important is it that we find out whether Romo is or isn't the QB of the future before this season is over?

1. That's the $64,000 question......let us not forget in 2003 he went w/Vinny 15 1/2 games.

2. I think it's very important we see what we have in the kid. It would most advantageous to us going into the off season knowing just what we do have as far as the most important position on a football team.

If we are in a position to possibly make the playoffs, barring an injury, I doubt we see Romo.

"If you do the things you have always done, don't expect the results to be any different than you have always gotten."

In other words, stay with Bledsoe, expect the same results. That's what history indicates.

Welcome to the board.

If Bledsoe rights the ship and assuming Parcells doesn't change his philosophy I would doubt we see a QB change.

Whether we approve or not is moot......You know how bull headed BP is.:D

A QB change is a very delicate issue with many complicated questions that must be taken under consideration before pulling the switch.

Feel free to add your own set of questions. ;) :)
And what if the answer is yes to all of the above?

The most important question then would be: Will BP change?

he's 4 years the "understudy" - hardly a "rookie".

now ask yourself about drew's accuracy and aim. if he bounces a few more will TO cry out in pain and cause us more anguish?

i'm ready to start the youth movement as soon as possible cause i sure don't see drew leading anywhere i wanna go. he's had what - 14 years to show he can and hasn't yet?

yea, i'm ready to let the kid play.

I'll throw in another question:

What do we do if Bledsoe for some reason stinks it up again, to the tune of 45% completions, 0 TD's, 2 INT's, with more misses of open receivers...and we WIN the game?

As long as Bledsoe has time to throw, he'll look great; if he has to scramble, if he remembers to scramble, he's going to look bad. That's his history.

Our OL is below average; you can't pay much attention to what the preseason stats were! With that OL, you're going to need a mobile QB - especially against a DL like they faced last Sunday!

IMO, the Boys are 9-7 at best this year; the OL just isn't strong enough to give Bledsoe time or have a strong running game.

Parcells definitely isn' ready to give up on the season and he'll stay with Bledsoe for now.

The games against weaker DL's, we'll do well offensively; people will sing Bledsoe's praises. The games where the DL makes Bledsoe move or take shots, the Boys will look pathetic; there'll be crys to switch to Romo.

Is Romo ready? We won't really know until he gets the reins. One thing is obvious at this time: the OL isn't Super Bowl quality and that means the running game isn't either. Without that, the passing game will be less than optimal.

So, I guess my bottom line is: since the offense isn't Super Bowl quality, the offense needs to be rebuilt. At some point this season, you have to continue Romo's development and the next obvious step is to get him regular season game experience against teams that game-plan for him.

I think that's what Parcell's is planning to do; when that actually happens - well he's playing that by ear...

Parcells has been here four years and I thought when he first came here that the OL would become one of the strongest units on the team; in fact I posted the same on another board back then. The fact that hasn't happened is very disappointing! He has done a pretty good job rebuilding the defense, but the offense has taken a back seat. I think we may need another head coach to complete the rebuilding job; another one to get the Boys back to the Super Bowl.

Yeah, it was just one game, but imo, it was very representative of what we're going to see against the stronger defenses in the league. Bledsoe will struggle, the running game will struggle, eventually TO will whine, and at some point we'll see if Romo is a better fit.
