... Remember or realize that he had:

7 Touchdowns last year

6 Games last year with 60 or more yards receiving (he also had 59 yards receiving in the wild car game).

I don't think he is without talent, I think he has simply been inconsistent.

I think time, practice, and effort can fix those things. Non of which do I believe are lacking in this situation.

That's looking at the bright side of things. I'm more negative about him but at least we have Dez to back him up now.

I hope the added pressure of Dez makes him step up his game. Miles, Roy, Dez, with Witten will rival (surpass) what Arizona had a few years ago with Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston. Add our running game to that and the offense is virtually unstoppable.

Nice post, Galian. As is your point that perspective at this point is as important to the fan as to the player.

When a franchise is at the point of transition, it evolves from a base level of general play and is elevated by opportunity and seizing individual strength to exploit the situation. Here, Roy is a very solid contributor. If not for the price tage, not anything to do with his effort or direct involvement...and an association with a hostility-magnet, TO, that fans associated Williams directly with. The frustrations of no playoff success was transfered from Jerry, to Wade, to TO, and then to Roy W. That really being unfair to a true professional receiver, Roy W.

This group of Dallas receivers are as good as one gets. They are directed by a to notched QB as well - Tony Romo.

Roy W will be a very strong contributer in that group...

I thought he was DYNAMITE in the wild card game. If Roy can become that consistent EVERY game................................

Stop! Bryant has not played a down in the NFL, and hasn't played ball in two years. Don't expect much this season.

Another great point...this has been a huge off period for a young athlete. The down time is a tremendous hazard to overcome. He will operate at a physical deficit for almost the entire next year. I hope that he doesn't hit lows of energy and have a rash of injuries, like pulled hamstrings, this upcoming season. His focus will be missing some due to this very factor...and hence, a 'rook' season is possible. Then again, he's such a talent, he may shine through from time to time as well...but my expectations are tempered due to the amount he has to actually overcome.

so what Romo is suppose to change for RW's

all this practice time he put in last year - Supposedly - now again this year

RW's does not fit our team - hes a big number one WR waste IMO

can't get off the line

only one yes count them ONE 1000+ yard season

he will have to prove me wrong

Dez is young. That makes a difference. He might struggle in minicamps, but I bet he'll be in shape by the time training camp rolls around.

Per Jerry in a pre-draft radio interview. There will be a salary cap in going forward. This dooms RW being here after 2010 regardless IMO, even if he has a nice season. Jerry will pay Austin and Dez ahead of him and you can only allocate so much money to a position.

Good points.

As a fan I hope Roy Williams has a solid season. If he and Dez can play up to there talent lvl we will have a offense that is hard to stop this season.

Dynamics and resiliancy of youth is a factor early on. I went from 210 going to Basic at USAFA and was down to 169 after it. I still put on enough weight after basic, at a training table, to earn a starting position at middle linebacker for the Falcons.

Dez is growing into his max optimization time of his life...and what you state does have some merit at this point. That stated, it takes an incorporated and constant monitoring to the degree he is not yet accustomed with coping with. His physical status will reflect directly to the mental toughness that he acquires. That demands mental toughness and repition of high standards.

A bust of Eddie Rickenbacker on the quadrangle of the talmac there comes to mind. On the base of that figure is inscribed the following: 'Man's flight through life is powered by the strength of his knowledge.'

I think you got that backwards RS12 in a league with no salary cap there is no issue in allocating cash at any position. And we both know Jerry is not afraid to spend cash.

That said.....

Dallas is in good shape financially with or without a cap and Dez wouldn't command big money until it is time to redo his rookie contract 3-5 years from now. As it stands Dez is looking at a 5 year 14-15 million dollar deal with 8-9 million guaranteed, he won't be breaking the bank being picked at the 24th spot in the first round... that is another reason why he is such a steal.

If Roy Williams has a big season and plays up to his contract he will not be going any where. I'm pulling for Roy but at least Dez gives us another option.

He just needs to catch everything thrown his way...To many easy drops.

I'm fine with Roy as long as he cuts down on the drops. 55-65 catches 650-700 yds 7 TDs is realistic and fine by me.

Let's say Romo has another phenomenal season and throws for 4500 yds again.

Austin 1300
Witten 1000
Roy E Will 700
Bryant 600
Bennett 250
Ogletree 250
Barber/Felix/Choice/Phillips 500

Even with these modest projections, that puts Romo over 4500 yds. Austin is clearly the #1 WR and we'll just assume over a full season as that guy, he'll match the 1300 yds he got last year. As long as Witten is healthy and Romo is QB, you can bank on Witten catching 90+ passes and 1000 yds. So that leaves Roy as the #3 target at best. Let's just say that Bryant will match Crayton's 600 yds last year. Then you've got Bennett with a slight improvement. They clearly like Ogletree's speed and use him in certain situations. Then you've got the RBs and Phillips matching their total yardage of around 500 last season.

This is not a slight against Roy at all. We just have to be realistic and understand that in this offense, Roy is the #3 target at best. I didn't even take into consideration the possibilty of Dez Bryant bullying his way past Roy at some point during the season. Again, I'll just assume he replaces Crayton's production. But I went back to 1999 the Greatest Show on Turf and Torry Holt, their #3 target had 780 yds. So 700 yds for Roy aint bad at all.

he's 28 years old and lacks basic fundamental football skills like catching a football and running good routes.
