To fix the coverage we need to do one of two things

-Get zone CBs

or

-Change to a Man scheme.

Since we shifted defenses from Ryans 3-4 to the Tampa 2, we have added one Zone CB, UDFA Tyler Patmon. Marinelli has been incorporating Man coverage to suit our strengths, but Tampa 2 simply isnt a man scheme. That alteration will only get you so far.

One of the two needs to happen

Now begins the long offseason. Who stays? Who goes? Heck, I wouldn't put it past this team to go back to a 3-4.

Pass rush man. It doesn't matter what coverage you play if you don't have a good pass rush. Zone will get eaten up, man will be beat one on one.

I think Scandrick needs to be a #2 CB. Carr should be a #3 CB (at best). They need a #1 CB.

Sterling Moore on Adams was such a mismatch.

I fear the holes in this D cannot be filled in a single season.

I'm new here, a longtime football fan but my knowledge of the game is not what it should be. (At least I admit my knowledge gaps!) I'm new here so I'd love to learn. What do you think we should do in the off-season?

During the game I was trying to figure out how Greenbay finally seemed to stifle the defense, which I thought looked very strong until the 4th quarter.

Im not saying its just the coverage. Not by a long shot. A good pass rush will help, but right now at the CB position we are pounding a square peg into a round hole.

Honestly if it was me, I go back to Man. Top 3 CBs are Man CBs. Both Claiborne and Carr actually played pretty well in 2012 in Man considering how many injuries there were to the front 7

Top corner is a cover 3 guy. Sherman.

You have to be able to play both man and zone. Sherman can do both.

Rodgers is surgical. He can get the ball from point a to point b within the blink of an eye. But he mostly exploited that Davante Adams and Sterling Moore matchup.

During the offseason we should A) move back to a man coverage scheme, so many times this year we got burned trying to go zone and it probably costs us home field advantage), B ) work to sign/draft a few better d-linemen, there are a few that won't really cost that much (I want Knighten personally... I like bigger guys that can cramp QBs to go with guys like Crawford), and C) draft an actual free safety instead of playing 2 SSs and expecting us to not know the difference.

There is not a unit or position on defense that wouldn't benefit from a talent upgrade. It's easy to make this defense better: add talented players to it. Anywhere and everywhere. As many as we can.

Correct. OScan is solid and I can live with Carr at #3 IF he takes a pay cut like Free did. He simply is overpaid. They need a #1 badly. Here is the FA list for '15:

I like Kareem Jackson, Brandon Flowers, Walter Thurmond and Kyle Wilson...with a few others being decent choices too. Big time potential this season in free agency at CB. However, SAFETY is even more of a need. Here are the '15 FA safeties:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/safety/

I like Devin McCourty (ALOT) and Nate Allen (a little)....slim pickings after that.

Marinelli's game plan seemed to be:

Rush 3 against 5 or 6... Have 8 drop back into coverage at least 15 yards from the LOS. Have all 8 stand there and wait for the offense to do something. Then, react.
