Being positive vs negative all the time

Good post. 'Othering' is an underlying issue with all communication. People label someone else as the other. Other = bad. Homer and hater are just two of many examples.

It is a practice that has been with humanity for a long time. I think it is so prevalent in present day because of all the different forms of communication, especially social media, and the exploitation of anonymity. I have been as guilty of it as the next person. An individual's task is acknowledging the practice and voluntarily addressing it. Truthfully, it is easier thing for some to do than others (no pun intended).
Exactly.

It seems ego driven and more often than not rooted in insecurity.

One wants to quiet the voices of insecurity tormenting one's self and the easiest way to do that is to create an "other" that one can view as inferior, then battle that other so one can feel superior in one's self proclaimed victory.

We've all done it. Some mature with age and experience. some don't.

Being objective means not being positive or negative all of the time. Both of those things can be annoying and inaccurate for different reasons. It's NOT all positive and it's NOT all negative. Pretending it is, is just sticking your head in the sand. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst and expect the most likely. Where we sit with regards to that each year and with each aspect of the team is up to each person to objectively decide

It’s like me telling my wife that she needs to calm down….
If she's telling you you're a hater and making the household miserable, you should absolutely tell he she needs to calm down. Make sure you point your finger in her face as you say it. I hear that's more effective. Lol.

I'm 61 and still working on it, haha.

The real issue here is the fact that a certain poster feels the need to tell other fans how they need to feel and how they have to root for the team. There is no wrong way to be a fan.
Eh. The posters OP is talking about do the same thing in every thread, regardless of the subject lol.

"Cowboys sign solid safety."
"Doesn't matter, Dak sucks in the playoffs."
"Pickens and CeeDee ranked top 5 WR duo."
"Doesn't matter, Cowboys won't win a Super Bowl until Jerry dies."
"I'd draft X player."
"30 years."

They spend all of their posts telling people not to bother with rooting for the team. It's worse than making a thread on it.

63 and the same.

This very forum has played no small role in whatever growth, if any, I've achieved.

20 years of consistent interaction in a fairly consistent dynamic on which to reflect on and introspect on. Plenty of examples of both the good and the bad to learn from. I've certainly been part of the problem over those two decades.

CowboysZone - Civilizing humanity and making the world a better place! :flagwave:

I call them the “Doom and Gloomers” There are quite a few of them here.

This thread was made as nothing more than to bait fans who don’t agree with rockport into looking like they aren’t really fans.

Reality is very few people on here are always positive or always negative. Most on here are a very healthy hybrid of emotions who just want to talk about football. It’s not about bashing the team and it’s not about propping up any and every move just because the cowboys did it. There is nothing wrong with breaking down the pros and cons of the new players on the roster each offseason. Personally that’s the fun of the offseason for me and where I get a lot of joy from, not just blindly booing or cheering a move that’s made.

For me positively is for game day. Everything else is about honest conversation. There is nothing wrong with suggesting the cowboys are strong in areas A,B and C but have concerns about X, Y, and Z. Having those conversations also don’t mean you can’t be excited to root for the cowboys on Sunday.

The real issue here is the fact that a certain poster feels the need to tell other fans how they need to feel and how they have to root for the team. There is no wrong way to be a fan.

There are people on this board for a variety of reasons, but 99% are of the same rooting interest even if it looks different. Some want to come here to simply stay up to date on what’s happening, some want to feel encouraged for the upcoming year, some want to vent their frustrations, and others want to talk in depth Xs and Os. None of these things are wrong, but all these wants are valid and should be tolerated as long as people aren’t stirring up trouble and breaking rules. The ‘your with us or against us’ attitude is a cancer for the forum and labeling people as optimist or haters does nothing productive.

It’s like me telling my wife that she needs to calm down….
Sadly, the ones you speak of are unable to comprehend what you are stating about...sadly, or intentionally refuse to do as such

This is so stupid. It is choosing to give Jerry no credit for Super Bowl wins and giving him all the credit for failing to get there again lol.
I should not have to spell this out for a grown man. Jerry was/is a good owner. Jerry is a horrible GM. Jerry's drafts without Jimmy have all failed in the playoffs after the leftovers of Jimmy's drafts were gone.. Jerry's coaching staff picks after Jimmy have all failed after the remnants of Jimmys team were gone.

Jimmy was given more control in Miami which resulted in a 2-3 playoff record. Jimmy was never as successful without Jerry on the business side of operations. And Jerry can never match Jimmy's success on the football operations side. They complemented each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Difference between them is Jimmy knew when to hang it up when his success and fire for the game waned. Jerry continues to embrace failure as GM rather than accept the possibility of success via change.

Yes and no. I agree there are a few extremes on that end as well, but There are many posters that have been unfairly put into the hater category by the OP and have become targeted by him ever since.

Probably. It's an annoying thread, I don't disagree.

But it's a pretty natural response, especially when the chatbots on this forum are "haters" lol

Actually I see the logic here. It's been three decades of very (VERY) little playoff success.

If we constantly set the bar at Super Bowl it's going to make us all very bitter year in and year out. For many of us it already has.

If we just enjoy the wins in a bubble and feel good about it in the moment it could save us a lot of angst and misery. Of course we want more. But it hasn't happened since 1996. And if it ever happens again just think what a pleasant surprise it will be.

Yes, it's sad and ridiculous that a team like the Cowboys has sank this far.....but what can we do?
There’s really nothing we can do except accept the past, learn from it and be hopeful going forward. The other choice is ending up like all the folks attacking me in this thread.

I think most people on this site want to be positive.
I think they yearn for a reason to be positive.

It's very tough to be positive when you are constantly being Hoodwinked hornswoggled and manipulated by an owner whose goal is different than everyone on the forum.

We fans want to win a Super bowl and we want to see our owner have the same desire to win that Super bowl that we do and make every effort necessary

We want to see that effort made every year not just when the spirit moves him and he decides to spend some money.

We want to see the effort made in every part of the game not just the parts that he likes the important parts like coaching.

The negativity on this forum and throughout this fan base stems from an owner who is taking for granted our loyalty and passion for this team.

No one likes to be made a fool of and that is what our owner has done to us more often than not in the last 30 years.

It's really pretty simple when our owner really goes all in every year and puts in the effort and resources necessary to create competitive team you will see a very positive response from this forum.
Most people yes. But you and many others not so much and you blame it on the past and Jerry and Dak and Romo, etc. etc. and you let it make you bitter. Your post is just yourself trying to make yourself feel better. THe OP is the facts of life whether you agree with it or not.

If you asked 100 people to describe "negativity" then you would get 100 different answers.

When a person is frustrated by their team's 30 years of no championship game involvement, is that negativity? If that person decides he 's had enough and will no longer be a Cowboys fan or watch their games is that more positive?

No on is 100% negative and no one is 100% positive in their attitude towards being a Cowboys fan. We are all different degrees of both depending on the perspective of the person observing.

To be clear, being negative towards Jerry Jones involvement as a GM is absolutely not the same as being negative towards the team. Jerry is not the Cowboys.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that any criticism leveled at Jerry Jones is a positive approach to being a Cowboys fan because it brings pressure on him to one day do the right thing and give the team a legitimate opportunity to win championships again.
Here’s the definition of “negativity”.

Negativity is a tendency to be downbeat, disagreeable, and skeptical. It's a pessimistic attitude that always expects the worst. Negative outcomes are bad outcomes, like losing a game, getting a disease, suffering an injury, or getting something stolen.

Oh, you poor thing. Is everyone being mean to you? I mean, you are the nicest poster on this forum, huh. Get out of here with that nonsense! lmao.

Remember our personal chats, I know your game, brother.

So, good Morning, Rockport.
