Assuming that Jerry and Garrett part ways at seasons end consider the following :

1. The Hoodies contract goes season to season, so he would be free to come to the Cowboys after the NFL season is over.

2. BB has history with Jerry.
He helped the Cowboys with player contracts before getting into coaching in the NFL.

3. The Story about Bill asking Jerry for a job in the 1990's just came to light after all these years ..hummmm.... that's interesting to say the least.

4. Jerry is 77 years of age and had be realizing his mortality.
You can't take it with you, and if Jerry wants another Superbowl, he has to see that his window is closing.
Will that mean he would give up the control he enjoys ?
He did do with Belichick's mentor Parcels so it possible.

5. The Patriots are on the way down, Brady is showing his age.
Does Bill want to be part of a rebuild ?

6. The Cowboys are quality coaching away from being a legit contender.
They have a quality core and just need a coach that can tap the potential.

7. The Dallas media has mentioned that Mr. Jones is going big game hunting for the next Head Coach.
Do they get any bigger than BB ?

Hey this is a long shot to happen , but it may be be more realistic than any of us thought.

Make it happen Jerry !!!
This would be the ultimate hire !!!

I'd love for that to happen. I really do love the idea. But, i dunno. I don't think it's likely atm. It'd be amazing if it did happen.

3. Jerry brought it up in a press conference before the Patriots game. So Jerry decided to "just bring it to light"

5. Then why would he want to come here? Our defense is in need of a rebuild and we will possibly be without the WR1 (Cooper) that was the reason Dak had his resurgence.

Wouldn't mind it at all, but as you said it is a long shot.

I honestly would be much less surprised if Belichick didn't retire when Brady does, which could very well be this season.
He could, but he has also changed courses and said he is willing to coach into his 70's

Before he wasn't

Maybe if Brady decides to hang it up this season. Even if that, it’s a long shot. I would like to see JJ give all the power to The Hoodie and see what he can do with this team, though. Wishful thinking.

Jerry stepped aside for the Big Tuna, would he do so for the Hoodie?
Don't know ...
There was literally no one happier in all of Texas when Parcells walked out of the door than Jerry. He got his stadium, that's all he needed from Bill.

Even if Garret is not back next year the new HC will be a college guy or young assistant - someone that Jerry can claim he 'discovered.' There is no way he let's the narrative here be "Jerry lost for 25 years then brought in Belichick (or someone else established) to win it because he couldn't."
