Belichick statement
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
Bill Belichick released the following statement today:

"Earlier this week, I spoke with Commissioner Goodell about a videotaping procedure during last Sunday's game and my interpretation of the rules. At this point, we have not been notified of the league's ruling. Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff and players. Following the league’s decision, I will have further comment."

Welcome to Gillette
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where Patriots coach Bill Belichick is scheduled to hold a 10:50 a.m. press conference. There is an overflowing media crowd here, with more than 12 television cameras in the back of the interview room where Belichick speaks.

In the parking lots here at Gillette, there are television trucks that appear ready to go live with the story once Belichick speaks.

We'll plan on passing along some updates after Belichick's press conference.

the interpretation of the rules crap should not fly ..... why would the camera man be wearing a disguise if he thought it was within the rules?

Norm just made an excellent choice. There should be a number 1 draft choice (or two of them) taken away, as well as a million dollar + fine to the club.

In addition, in light of Wade Wilson's suspension, Belichek deserves to be suspended as well. I wholeheartedly agree.

And note - I am one fo the few posters who likes New England and what they have done, I have nothing but respect. But cheating CANNOT be tolerated.

4-5 games for Belichek for justice.

What he should be punished for is the brazenness of it all. He not only cheated, he did against his old assistant who probably knows that Belichek does this stuff. They may not have been caught if it happened this week against the Chargers.

I get the feeling that the league has known about this for a while and were on the lookout. The Packers had accused them of the same thing. Also, Wade Phillips was talking with the ticket this morning and brought up that there was a vote last offseason to add radios into the helmets of the defensive captain. A lot in the league wanted to do this. I would bet that those who wanted this knew about the Pats possible cheating and were looking for a smoking gun.

They now have it - and I would bet that they also have their votes next offseason.

If league wants to send the message, then Pats should forfeit the game against Jets and lose #1 draft picks for next two years, and a hefty fine.

I liked what someone said in another thread. They should keep the win, but take it out of consideration for division play.

The pats STOMPED the Jets. It isn't as if they just sorta squeaked by with the help of their calls.

If anything, I would be willing to bet that the video wasn't used in this game, that it was more a reconnaissance for the next game/later playoffs.
