Take away the 1st quarter against the Packers and the secondary has taken away the deep passing plays. They are forcing teams to take the underneath passes and drive the full length of the field. This scheme is designed to do this.

Now they must do a better job on 3rd downs as they are dead last in the league. Their red zone defense also has been poor ranked 24th in the league. Only have created 3 turnovers. These are the 3 major areas that they must improve upon to achieve success.

Yeah but it's my belief that against the Jets they sacrificed the run game in order to get more pressure more sacks and make them take a lot longer you know the bend don't break theory they traded one issue for another Now we're going to meet up with Mr Rico who believes he'll put two 100 on us too Why wouldn't he think that after seeing that last week?

It's hard to know this team they covered up one really bad area of the team by sacrificing the run game which looked a lot more like Van Quinn's defenses all the twists and the stunts and the extra blitzing created some holes that they took advantage of especially I know in the 4th quarter it was garbage time but still they did it..

Maybe the more James plays with Liafu and they get comfortable with the rotation at linebacker Maybe it gets better but to me they sacrificed one for the other I can't say that enough I don't know if it was game plan that way but they wanted them to have to score methodically take time off the clock and stop with the barrage of easy big scores and chunk yards it just literally looked like they were playing practice squad guys against starters..

Is it that or are we not facing QBs that can skillfully force the issue down field? Pressure against the Jets helped. What happens when we can't get home and are facing a non-invalid QB? I'd like to see it.
Eberfluss secondary is more or less a copy of the Marinelli secondary. Same premise of the Tampa-2 make a team drive the field and be "perfect" to score. It is a very passive defense on the back end.

It’s not ideal but I’ll accept it as opposed to what we saw against Giants. Maranelli Barca bend but don’t break philosophy. This defense been breaking every week except Jets and Philly.

It's not working because they are. They gave up 37, 31 and 40 until the hapless Jets.

Doesn't look to me like they slowing down anyone.
24,37, 31,40,22 I mean sort of better...lol

That's the thing ,we know it's broke...

I think they overcorrected they decided they didn't want to be barrage with long passes chunk yards and easy scores so they gave up a little in the run game So hopefully maybe they correct a little bit the other way and then try to find a balance where they could just be average I mean I would take instead of 32 let's give me 20 to start with can we move up to 20th in the league overall in defense so our offense doesn't have to think they need to score 30 every game....

Love wasn't doing this past the 1st qtr.

We don't know as their run defense has been solid prior to last week.

It is working, but they aren't finishing the drives. They are suppose to tighten up in the red zone. Big passing plays have improved but there are other aspects that they are still struggling with.

And in that defense the two most important players are the 3T DT and MLB. Osa is good enough as the 3T, but we don't currently have the MLB to run the defense effectively.

Jacobs and Hall the last 2 games have re-ignited run stopping ineptitude. So it's like a trade off. The run dee was decent the first 3 games and the pass dee putrid.
Now it's flipped back around to poor run stopping. This current defense can't be good at both at the same time yet.

Hopefully the LB carousel can somehow "manage" at the 2nd level or we're gonna continue to get gashed.

What this team needs - on both sides of the ball - is consistency. At 2-2-1, they are exactly what their record says they are - mediocre.

Good teams are consistently good. Bad teams are consistently bad. Consistency is what separates good teams from mediocre teams. Mediocre teams are good sometimes, not good other times.

Until the Cowboys gain some consistency, they are mediocre.

I feel like they need to play a little tighter on 3rd and intermediate yardages. Playing 10 to 12 yards off the receivers on a 3rd and 7 is giving up an automatic first down. Even bad NFL QBs are going to take advantage of that. I don't know if Eberflus doesn't trust his CBs, or if it is his scheme but they can never be good on 3rd downs unless they are willing to play in front of the line to gain.
