I know that we (fans) are still high off of winning the NFC East but I feel that if an NFL Organization wants to continue to be successful management must plan for the future.

Benardrick McKinney is a player who can play both the middle and outside linebacker positions. If he is there in the late first or second round, I feel that Jerry should select him. The dude is another Rolando McClain.

If Sean Lee gets injured again and if Bruce Carter leaves this guy gives our team a solid back up plan, plus he provides talent and youth to the front seven.

So you want to draft a player that early to be back up. They will resign McClain and Lee will come back. Hitchens have played solid and Durant will probably be back. The Sam is one if the least important positions in Tampa 2

I disagree. You have to look into this objectively. There is no guarantee that McClain will resign and Lee will be healthy.

Keeping your options open and selecting the best player available is the key.

I don't hate it, particularly the way Cowboy linebackers seem to go down regularly.

I agree on BPA. But what if we do resign McClain. Right now it's to early to say either way. But say we do and Lee is already healthy.

No way you spend a 1st round pick on a back up. Especially when there are players there that can help and start day one at other positions.

I go by BPA per position of need. I take the BPA where I can upgrade a position with a player that is a day 1 starter. Martin was an obvious choice because he was a day 1 starter over Bernie at RG. They wanted Shazier who would have been an obvious starter at WOLB over Church.

But now with the great find of McClain and I doubt Jerry let's walk and Lee who is a probowler. Mckinney who is a good player is not better than those 2 right now.

Also SOLB is like the 1 tech DT. Not a place where they put great value or high draft picks.

Look at chicago. You had Urlacher at z mike and Briggs at Will. Who was the Sam?

So you would be ok with skipping a player that say has a 1 less grade. Say Mckinney had a 91 and a DE or CB was a 90. I'm taking the DE or CB

Never said I wouldn't, but if the grade is significant'y higher I would take him particularly because he has the skillset to play inside or out. In the current NFL system players with position flex ar at a premium, look at Hitchens and how important he has been to the Cowboys this year.

Just depends on who is there. I don't think he can play the will. I think he is a Mike or sam in this scheme.

They will know before the draft if McClain is going to be on the team in 2015.

If McClain returns, then the lineup is most likely:
WLB Lee
MLB McClain
SLB Hitchens

They only have 2 LBs on the field in the Nickel which is about half of all snaps for the season so if Lee get injured again, then Hitchens can play WLB and somebody else can play the part time role of SLB.

In order to make it worth using a high pick on a LB, IMO, that LB would need to be an elite coverage LB. They thing they are in least need of is a thumper that is a marginal coverage guy.

As a 4-3 LB is McKinney an elite coverage guy or more of a thumper with limited coverage abilities?

If 3-4 teams see him as a pass rusher, then he will most likely get drafted higher than his value as a 4-3 LB.
