Brooks accused of assault
Bengals linebacker faces June court date
BY JIM HANNAH

BURLINGTON – Bengals linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been charged with punching a Florence woman in the left eye.

Brooks, who lives in Union, has been summoned to appear June 6 in Boone District Court to answer to the charge of misdemeanor assault, punishable by up to a year in the jail.

Destiny Rosich gave a sworn statement Wednesday that Brooks was arguing outside her neighbor’s home on April 9 in the 7600 block of Banklick Street. She said her children were outside playing and began to cry because Brooks and the neighbor were about to start a fistfight.

Brooks told the neighbor that he was going to “split his head open,” Rosich wrote in her statement.

That when she “nicely approached” Brooks and asked him to stop and “take it somewhere else,” according to the statement.

“He then pulled back his fist and struck (punched) me in the left eye,” Rosich wrote. “I then fell and blacked out.”

When Rosich gained consciousness, she grabbed her children, ran inside her home, called 911 and was taken to an area emergency room.

Rosich’s attorney, Gary Franke of Cincinnati, said he had no comment at this time.

Florence police spokesman John McDermond confirmed that officers responded to the scene after the fight. He said the incident is considered a fourth-degree assault and that officers have to witness it to make an arrest.

McDermond said officers’ involvement was limited to explaining to Rosich how to fill out a criminal summons.

“Our policy is that it’s not appropriate to comment on legal proceedings in which there is no ruling,” Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said.

Brooks, a 6-foot-3, 259-pound middle linebacker, is approaching his third NFL season.

The 24-year-old came to Cincinnati by way of the University of Virginia. Amid allegations of marijuana use, he was kicked off the football team and forced to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft, according to Enquirer archives.

The Bengals took him in the third-round of that draft in July of 2006.

He had 46 tackles with one sack, two passes defensed, and a special teams tackle during the 2006 season.

Brooks’ second NFL season was cut short after he suffered a groin injury Sept. 16 at Cleveland. He was inactive for Games 3 through 8, and was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list Nov. 7.

There was no immediate reaction from the Bengals other than a statement issued by club spokesman Jack Brennan: “Our policy is that it’s not appropriate to comment on legal proceedings in which there is no ruling.”

It's funny how the Bengals make fun of the Cowboys saying how we take trouble makers like Irvin and Pacman Jones. Looks like there needs to be another tally added to the bengals list.

There has to be something in the water in Cincy.

Maybe they all have issues 'because' they are Bengals.

I know that wouldn't be my first choice of teams to play for if I was in the NFL.

You ever been to cincy:laugh2:

Well I guess that logic does not work as it is MUCH better in Cincy compared to Cleveland..or at least the last time I was at those places.

So a guy can knock a woman out outside, presumably in front of a witness who Brooks was arguing with, and the police can't arrest him; but they can take a guy away in hadcuffs if he slaps his wife? Don't misunderstand, I don't condone spousal abuse either. But why the different standard?

I don't understand why "men" think it's acceptable to beat on women. The Commissioner needs to teach him some manners.

It's funny when the bengal fans say "well dallas is no saint they got Pacman and Tank." They forgot a huge important fact though. The fact that both Pacman and Tank got in trouble BEFORE coming to the Dallas Cowboys. Where as the bengal players are getting in trouble WITH the bengals. Huge difference.

I find it very hard to believe any NFL player would just wind up and punch a woman in the face if they were arguing....... even a Bengal player.

I have a feeling there is about 17 different sides to this story.

If this is true, what a low life. A 260 pound man punching a mother in the face while her children are watching.

When you're 260 pounds of muscle, a fist is a deadly weapon.

It doesn't matter how many sides there are to the story, he is dead wrong in every one of them. Some acts just can't be justified.

As far as finding it hard to believe that any NFL player would just wind up and punch a woman in the face, it depends on the player.
