For some reason I remember that game better than our own game against SF, although I was really young at the time. Does anyone remember, did our game follow immediately after that one or were they played on different days back then?

The playoffs that year produced three memorable games. The San Diego/Miami classic, the freezer bowl, and one other one that slips my mind.

Seriously, I watched that Bengal/Charger game in nervous anticipation of the Dallas game to follow.

Couldn't remember a time when the Bengals were any good. Then I remembered back to the 70s and how good Kenny Anderson was. Unless I'm mistaken, don't think Bengals have done anything since. So the obvious answer is "when did the current owner (Mike Brown) replace his father"?

They made another SB under Boomer Esiason and lost again to SF.

It's growing up watching conference championship games like this one which convinced me that professional football title games of any kind should always be played indoors. All franchises outside of California and Florida should have domes and I'm not so sure that I'll keep making the exception for those two states either.

Take weather completely out of the mix. Allow each team's talent to be the final deciding factor in the outcome. It's the 21st century and domes should be the norm now. /rant off

I couldn't watch this last night.

Just watching it made me think about our Championship Game that was coming later that same day. At the time the Bengals game was being played, we didn't know that one of the most gut wrenching losses in Cowboy history and "The Catch" were just a few hours away. :bang2:

That was a bitter sweet day for me. Growing up in Ohio, and being a Dallas fan 1st, and Cincinnati fan 2nd. That was my ultimate SB. I would have been rooting for Dallas of course.

The Bengals did their part. I remember many players came out in short sleeves for the Bengals. That had to a psychological hit to SD and worth 10 points in itself.

Then Dalls couldn't do their part......bummer of a day it became, and a few weeks later when SF beat Cincy in the SB.
