Bengals keep Zimmer 1/12/2010 12:41:14 PM

Steve Wyche of NFL.com reports via Twitter that the Bengals have retained defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer with a new contract. Terms were not available
Commanders coach Mike Shanahan was interested in hiring Zimmer.

Interesting.

So I would guess it comes down to a personal think with Zimmer as you have to think he knew he could get more money with the Skins.

I was actually hoping the Commanders would have signed him.

Orakpo wouldn't have had more than 7 sacks per season the rest of his career.

Well things are not going quite as well as the Skins had hoped. Apparently plenty of coaches realise they want no part of that franchise even with Shanny there.

Zimmer made the smart move and it is not really a reflection on the Commanders. He is a hot name right now and might even have got some more heat as a head coach had the Bengals done better. Going to Washington would be a dead end. Shanahan will be around for a while and he really is not part of his immediate circle of trust.

Now all he has to do is stay and wait for the ax to fall on Marvin Lewis, which should happen in the next few years. He has not got that team over the hump and just seems to be missing something. If it were not for Zimmer's defense, that team would not have been in the shape they were in.

I predict Zimmer will be Cincy's Head Coach after Lewis if someone else doesn't snag him first.

Man, it's great being a Cowboy fan right now! Commander fans crying about not getting coordinators, Eagles fans crying about their coach and QB, Giant fans whining about the quitters on their team. This is ****ing great! Only one thing can make this season better.:fogeys:

There are reports that the Commanders have hired Haslett to be the defensive coordinator. Not too thrilled about this, but it will be interesting to see if he sticks with the 4-3 or moves to a 3-4.
