Bengals playing starters again tonight

Wasn't all that long ago when it was s.o.p to play the starters for the first half of the 3rd ps game.

Of course you could also work the players much harder in tc as well.

Practice scared, play scared.

I remember early on in the dynasty years the entire starting offense would play at least a series. And if they went 3 and out they would keep playing until they found some sort of rhythm. As a fan I enjoyed it as it gave me some bonus viewing of my favorite players. But can you imagine if Emmitt, Troy or Mike had gone down during one of those sessions? We would have been all over Jimmy or Switzer or whichever coach put them out there. I don't think 7 or 8 preseason snaps is going to make much difference to this offense. I think Dak, CeeDee and Pickens are going to eat the Eagles secondary alive. The only real question is whether our defense chooses to participate in the game.

But they took live snaps against fresh defenses without the protection of a red jersey.

I'm not saying it's the ultimate preparation but it's better than nothing.
Is it though? I see a much higher risk than valur.

Bengals defense is just awful.

Another year missing the playoffs for Burrow

there is risk practicing. hidden risk in dropping a game or two because you weren't really ready.
I don't think 5 (or any really) snaps in preseason could possibly cause you to lose any games with the exception of injury.

Hasn't Cincy stumbled out of gate like every year since the got Burrow? Playing their starters doesn't really seem to be working out all that well for them..

2024 started 0-3 won one and lost the next to go 1-4
2023 started 0-2 won one, lost one, won one to go 2-3
2022 started 0-2 won two then lost two then lost one to go 2-3.

By my count that's 5-10 overall in the first 5 games.

So the last three seasons they have started 0-2 and have not had a winning record until week 7 in any of them.

Meanwhile the hapless Cowboys

2024 won the opener, lost the next two then won the next two to go 3-2
2023 started 2-0 then lost one, won one, lost one to go 3-2
2022 start 0-1 then won four in a row to go to 4-1

By my count that's 10-5 overall in the first 5 games.

We sure we want to be emulating Cincy in this regard? Maybe we should find a better example.
Looks like not playing works better lol.

Some ppl think it's stupid to sit a QB who missed the majority of last season injured. I'm going to go with Dan Quinn over whatever the Cowboys are doing right now.
Playing in 1 PS game against bkups , and using vanilla plays, isnt going to help dak.

I think Dak will be ok, in week 1 as long as they run alot, and just throw mid range to short passes.

The Bengals are playing their starters again to start out the PS game against Washington.
On ESPN now.

Jerrry you idiot. Take notice, our guys needs the reps.

Not sure what Washington is doing yet.
I get not playing in last pre season game but not playing rookies in every game, not playing your QB is just asking for a slow start

Really asking for it you know how many these reps and snaps they've been getting in training camp probably more than they'll get all season.. 30 stats going on out there I think it was posted in this thread probably on Prescott's Game One or early starts in September he's got a great record even in a loss like you remember that Tampa Bay battle against Tom Brady and his Super Bowl year with Tampa Bay game one did he look rusty he didn't look rusty to me he doesn't play in pre-season that's just it..

More than half the starters did not see the field for their teams at quarterback and many other positions but just at quarterback is it me or did Jalen hurts play any snaps in preseason 'cause I don't remember.

By the way Jayden Daniels that game he came in and he ran the ball got a touchdown they pulled him out he had no throwing stats at all I mean wow that's going to make him better for game one lol

Not going to do this with all 32 teams but most of the teams that are starting their quarterback in a couple games in preseason are usually very young unproven quarterbacks that need work or brand new quarterbacks to that team that also need more work with the rhythm with their players and very few seasoned guys and I know Burrows and Mahomes are the anomalies but I don't see this helping them game one.....

It's so limited it doesn't matter It's just not enough.

Literally what I had to expose your entire starters to make sure it was blocked up properly and you'd have had to use your the entire offense you're risking them to injury for what what you think is a benefit I think there's more risk and almost zero reward....

I mean I didn't look over there and watch every team like I said I can't comment but I'm telling you I'm pretty sure Josh Allen Jalen Hurts and many others did not play any preseason games...

the question mark would be how is the Eagles going to dominate our offensive line? that hasn't had time to Gel yet, who is starting at the two tackle spots?

Can They establish a run game enough to keep the Eagles honest, to help our pass game get off because, if they don't respect our run game like usual in the playoffs and some of the big games ,we've seen our run game get shut down with four guys up front and then play a heavy zone and take up all the passing lanes easily, and still get pressure on the quarterback...

It's been pretty pathetic and our quarterback gets a lot of blame and he shouldn't of how easily without anything exotic no more than five defensive lineman can literally just shut our offense down because our offensive line can't handle it we can't run and then it affects the passing game you can't be one dimensional...

So yes, in theory we look like we have a very potent passing game, but can we even get to that on a consistent basis?

That's how you open the game We have a passing game though that later on you suck them in They easily can get some big stuff against that Eagles defense if what you're saying early works..

You're right and most of the league did not start their veteran quarterbacks any in the preseason some got about 10 snaps maybe 15 and I don't know how completing seven passes is gonna help the season or game one literally you're correct people are over thinking this..

There's some more just FYI.. By the way in that ironic the Rams knowing Matthew Stafford they're trying to keep him healthy they didn't even give Garoppolo any snaps in the preseason but I bow down to the know it alls in here ,who think that somehow the Cowboys are they doing it wrong..lol

Allen didn't play for the Bills (1-2), finishing his first preseason without seeing any game action. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield also didn't take any snaps in exhibition games for the first time in his career.

No, Jalen Hurts did not play any snaps in the 2025 NFL preseason. The Eagles' coach, Nick Sirianni, rested Hurts and other starters to evaluate the team's backup quarterback options, who included Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

No, Jimmy Garoppolo did not get any preseason snaps this year (2025). The Los Angeles Rams announced he would not play at all in the preseason, likely due to the team's strategy of resting starters and his existing role behind Matthew Stafford. In previous years, he also didn't play in the preseason, such as in 2024 due to a PED suspension and the previous year in 2023 when the team was trying to figure out his future, according to Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Sports.
