The presumption has been that, once their star quarterback returns, all will be well in Dallas. But, as Sunday night’s overtime loss proved, the defense and running game are not what they used to be in Big D

We want to believe that the Cowboys, losers of six straight since Tony Romo broke his clavicle, are still in it. Even if you’re part of the not-so-silent majority that despises America’s Team, you want to believe they’re in it because—let’s be honest—the NFL is more interesting when they are.

We’ve learned over the years that Cowboys are going to be televised in prime time or in the featured 4:25 Sunday window regardless of the team’s record… might as well have those games mean something. Besides, when the Cowboys are in the position they’re in now—fighting for their lives and not playing up to standards—that’s when we get the most shots of Jerry Jones in the club box during broadcasts. Flashes of the 73-year-old and his sons toggling between states of euphoria and agitation might be the best live entertainment on TV.

Coming from one of Darren McFadden's most fervent detractors, that guy has been playing his tail off for the past several weeks. He, and the running game, haven't been any part of the reason that this team has lost games since he's assumed the lead dog role. Any inclusion of the run game for recent losing is off base in my opinion.

I actually feel really badly for McFadden because the guy is working so hard and his good work has essentially been for naught.

He's probably like, I thought I left Oakland...

do you remember those games? it's not as if we ran way with glowing pride after either of them. in BOTH instances we were lucky to come out winners.

so yea...

While true this is also true of many of our victories last year as well.

We had to come from behind or barely sneak out some victories last year...including against the Lions in the playoffs.

This is parity and the NFL. Every team is within a score of the others. We won last year because we were the ones getting those 1 extra scores on Romo's mastery. Take that away and this is what you get. A team that is just a score short each game. We get about 11 possessions per game. A FG instead of a TD, a 3rd down we can't convert ect and 1 possessions ends differently than it did last year.

I don't think we are significantly worse than last year. We are just now on the losing end of the 1 score games.
Look back at last season and look at how many of those games could have and would have ended differently if not for Romo.

This isn't just the Cowboys. This is the current NFL. All teams are a score from each other.

The headline was rather sensational I guess to garner clicks. Benoit is actually not a bad writer, but didn't break any new ground here, and he didn't exactly lambaste the Cowboys. The Cowboys can't find a turnover in a bakery, the defenses pieces haven't meshed all at once, Byron Jones despite the winning td last night is a player, and the running game has been good, not great this year. Fair article, but nothing new or fresh about it.
