Army is a D-1 football program, West Point is 50 miles from NY, and is in the same state.
:laugh2: Good one.
I can't imagine anyone would ever say West Point is a suburb of NYC. I'm sure in a packed in metro area like that or Philly that the 50 mile rules would remotely apply....but good one nevertheless.

NYC already has about 20 million peole withing about a 20 mile radius, so I'd say they have enough by any standards.
Plus, I say they are awesome for sports anyway.

Chicago has to be up there we have;
NFL bears, went to nfc championship
NBA Da Bulls!, 2nd in the east behind boston
MLB Sox and Cubs, i hate baseball but they are popular and the Sox won the pennate in 07 i believe
NHL Blackhaws are good, won the cup last season and are 4 points out of 3rd place
NASCAR Chicago land motor speedway is a beautiful place
Div 1 Footaball NIU, EIU, Illinois state, Southern and Western Illinois
Div-1 Basketball we got Bradley, EIU, U of I, Illinois State
Major League Soccer , forget soccer but we still have Chicago Fire
PGA - Pine Meadows

We have a pretty famous farm team the Kane County Cougars, if i recall they are for the marlins

West Point isn't a suburb of NYC. Believe me, I lived there for four years.

Outstanding.
You had us at "Chicago"
so no need to throw all of those D-1 schools that are not in Chicago in there.
Northwestern is though, and NIU is close enough I guess.:D

Anyway, no doubt that Chicago deserves mention of one of the very best all-around sports. All the top sports pro and college, plus, they even have a NASCAR event this year.

I could see them making the top 13-14 anyway....which is pretty good out of 42+ cities.
Without having a team in the top 4 major sports, you kind of get eliminated from the top 10 immediately. LA would be the exception b/c they have so much else.

I'd say if this was a per capita thing, Pittsburgh would be even higher.

Oakmont is awesome from what I've been told.

Oakmont is the only course in the country that could host a PGA major on one day's notice.

The only other metro areas with courses worth mentioning would be NYC with Bethpage simply because anyone can play it and Philly with Pine Valley, the consensus best course in America but one would be more likely to hit the lottery twice than get on it.

Boston Celtics...17 Championships
New England Patriots...3 Super Bowls
Boston Red Sox...7 World Series
Boston Bruins...5 Stanley Cups

New York Yankees...27 World Series
New York Mets...2 World Series
New York Rangers...4 Stanley Cups
New York Islanders...4 Stanley Cups
New York Jets...1 Super Bowl
New York Giants...3 Super Bowls
New York Knicks...2 Championships

I think everyone else is talking about 3rd place. Since other sports were also mentioned I'll throw in the US Open, one of the Tennis Grand Slam events.

I didn't say it was a suburb of NYC. But it's a hell of a lot closer than Storrs, Connecticut, and you pondered including UConn.

Yeah, I thought I set up the the poll so we could pick two, but it didn't work out that way.

My picks were NYC and then an honorary one to DFW for the incredible diversity (not just the 4 pro sports). This was not meant to be a pro sports--who has won the most tiles thread. More of an all-around, braod brush sports thing.

But NYC would get my nod too.

If LA had a pro football team they would be up there too when through in D-1 college hoops and football, soccer, etc.

Problem in Boston is their fans.

Recent years, Celtics fans were invisible before the big 3, most Pats fans before that first SB...didn't see them.

The Sox fans are probably the most diehard, I have ever met. They had not won in several decades, but they stayed true.

However. Boston is likely the right answer.
