The one problem with this scenario, is that you wind up with a bunch of talented players, but not a bunch of chemistry.
See, I've played sports, and I'm also a musician. I've played with guys who are studs, and who are middle tier. Sometimes I'd rather play with the middle tier guy, because he's better at playing as a unit, vs trying to be Eddie Van Halen at every moment.
Success is not built by an individual, but several individuals playing well together.
Just my two cents, but I think the lack of chemistry is a bigger problem than lack of talent. Talent as a team is built on gelling with your teammates. Heck, that goes with any job. I'd bet a lot of us have worked with that one crew once that was never to be measured against for years later.
