If you look at the defense rankings those are the real difference. Dallas has had a good offense since Romo took over.

The only year the defense was really good under Romo was 2009. This years defense has a chance to be the best since the SB years in the 90's.

If this defense plays to it's potential then this would be the best team since the 90's.

Defense fell off a Cliff in 2010, and was awful for the duration of the decade with Garrett.

Hatcher was a bust, good group, and there was no reason to mention Hatcher..
Hatcher really came out of nowhere in in season 8 which was also a contract year. Registered 11 sacks and played really well. After that he got a nice contract and disappeared. Wouldn't say he was a bust playing 10 seasons in the league have 2 good seasons and 1 very good one with the Cowboys but he wasn't a key contributor on the teams mentioned above at the time.

Agreed, 07 and 09 were probably the more complete teams vs 2014 and 2016. The offense remained good and retooled but looking at the defensive starters it's hard to believe that's the team we had on defense. Sean Lee was the lone standout but injured. 3 of the 4 starting defensive line in 14 probably weren't NFL caliber starters. Brandon Carr, Orlando Scandrick, Barry Church, and Tyrone Crawford were the anchors of the defense. They were all solid players, but I don't think teams needed to game plan for anyone in particular.

I think the only things the 07 and 09 teams were missing were a good #2 WR, while Crayton should have been #3. Additionally a #2 corner.

Agreed. Although if you count Witten with the WRs, it’s closer at receiver. I also like the depth we had at RB then, so I’d give the edge on offense pretty easily to the older group. Our current group at RB is concerning with Pollard coming off that injury, there’s not much behind him.

Now that I think about it, the TE group was really good during that 2007ish era. Witten and Fasano, then they replaced Fasano with Bennett. Our TE2 was probably better than anything we’re rolling with this year.

LB and Secondary is better with the current version, but the early 2000s units are close.
:) Have him go ahead and take you to a sidebar and have the stenographer read her notes...

None of this matters as long as #4 throws high school interceptions...

Nick Eatman: Not to be that guy, but I think you overlooked a trio in between that was even better. What about the very next year in 2006? Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn and an even better Patrick Crayton was really good and had it not been for an injury to Glenn in 2007, that season would likely had the best in team history. But to your question, I'll take this year because you have a superstar in the group that is right in the middle of his prime in CeeDee Lamb. We don't even know how good he's going to be yet and he's already special. Cooks and Gallup have a chance to make this a great trio and based off your 2005 comparison, I like this one better. And for argument's sake, take your pick on Kelvin Martin (1991-92) or Kevin Williams (1993-94). But either one of them, teamed with Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper formed a great trio from the 1991-94 seasons.

Mickey: Well, I'll take the current trio, I've already nicknamed The Triplets, in CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks and a healthy Michael Gallup. This group has speed to burn, also with Lamb and Gallup in the prime of their careers, and certainly Cooks not slowly down a step after delivering six 1,000-yard receiving seasons over his past eight years. Back then, Keyshawn and Terry Glenn were nearing the ends of their careers. Now Glenn could still run, but if we consider Gallup the third receiver now, he's more dynamic than Crayton.
