Best defensive move? Trade down

100% agree, and that why I think if you can stack another day 2 pick and with all the picks we have we can maneuver to move up to get the guys we want.
Perfect world, a QB is there on the board at 10 and the 49ers haven't found their guy yet. New England, Washington (probably won't trade with), Chicago, Indy could start a bidding war in which we could net a higher return then what the trade chart states, could be an additional 2 & a 3 for that 19-21 range.

Hope like heck that 4 QB's, 2 WR's, Pitts, and Sewell go in the top 9.

That means you are guaranteed to get Farley or Surtain.

The "price" to move up from 10 to 8 (in a similar scenario of players being taken) costs you about a 4th to do it (a late 3rd with the Jerry Tax). So if you love Farley and are luke warm about Surtain (or vice versa), you pay that price to make sure you get your guy.

That is the dream if a QB is on the board and you have a bunch of teams inquiring to drive up the price and we can get good return. Qb on the board is the difference of getting 1 day 2 pick to multiple or even a future 1st.

The team that worries me is the Broncos for the corners, however, there are some whispers out there that they might be the dark horse team to acquire Watson from the Texans. Also, the 49ers could be a team that jumps ahead of both the Broncos and Cowboys for the corner, they have virtually nothing at the position.

If the draft were to fall the way drafttek.com has the top prospects, I think it would be in Dallas' best interest to trade down.

The only top 10 defensive player available would be LB Micah Parsons. However, if we trade down between 15-20, there are several good possibilities: S Trevor Moehrig, DT Christian Barmore, LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah ... and if for some reason all of them are gone, DT Daviyon Nixon.

It would also give us some good ammo in the second round to go after a player like S Richie Grant if we didn't get Moehrig or maybe LB Zaven Collins with a trade-up or to possibly take two of DTs Jay Tufele and Alim McNeil, S Andre Cisco and CB Greg Newsome Jr.

It all depends on how the draft plays out as what is best for the Cowboys. We can speculate, but it’s really a waste of effort. Unless you’re really bored and have nothing else to do.

This is such a crazy year where a lot of dominos still yet to fall:

-Wentz reportedly is going to Chicago this week. Think Philly is crazy to let him go after one poor season. Will they now be in the market or will they go with Hurts.

-Does Watson get traded prior to the draft? Will Atlanta deal Ryan? Could the Raiders move on from Carr? What about Jimmy G?

-There might be upwards of 10 teams needing franchise QB's, never seen this before. There could be 5 QB's taken in the top 10.

Let a team let the 49ers be sitting there needing a QB, along with two more behind them to drive up the price.

What exactly do you think mock drafts are? Just speculation about how the draft will play out. Speculation is kind of what the draft forum is all about.

If Farley and Parsons are gone, I’m warming up to trading back.

- It’s a loaded OT class - if we miss Slater there’s a lot of good options in a trade down or 2nd round
- Surtain is a good prospect, but I think he’s overrated and not a top 10 talent

Question is if there’s a run on QBs we may not have the option unless someone wants to move up for Lance.

Some mock drafts are created by experts who watch film of the players for months and months. Those are interesting to talk about. Those done by CZ members, not so much.

I don’t believe Surtain and Farley will both be gone. Too many offensive players will be taken in the first round (QBs, WRs, and at least one OT). I’ll be surprised if at least one of the two aren’t there.
Probably one or both will be there. Doubtful either are worth the 10th pick.

If we want to win in the post season we have to be able to stop the run and get to the passer. I know they met with Quincy Roche at the senior bowl and there seems to more edge rushers rated in the top 32 this year than usual.

Defensive trade back options might be
LB Zaven Collins, Nick Bolton, Jeremiah Owusu Koramoah, Micah Parsons
CB Jaycee Horn
DT Levi Onwuzurike, Christian Barmore,
Edge
Jaelan Phillips, Kwity Paye, Azeez Ojulari, Gregory Rousseau, Jayson Oweh, Carlos Basham, Joseph Ossai
S Trevon Moehrig

While I am never opposed to drafting an edge rusher if that player is BPA, I sure hope that the team addresses 1 Tech/NT in the draft or FA in some meaningful way. I would be all for a free agency pickup if it’s not a meaningless cast off. I feel the same way about safety.

I agree, we've tried to get by on the cheap for way too long. One of the first things Jimmy did was Cut Danny Noonan and sign Tony Casillas. I watched a youtube video the other day with four viable options in free agency and they all sounded like and upgrade to what we have now. In the draft there are a number day two options that look pretty good.

Someone wanting Lance is probably your best option for a trade down. However, I think both Smith and Slater will go ahead of our pick

None of the edge players in this draft really do anything for me at 10. Rousseau maybe, but that seems like a reach

There's going to be 3 maybe 4 QB's taken in the top 10 this year.

Sewell the OT is going to get taken also. That's 4 to 5 players taken before we pick and Parsons is the only player worth the top 10 pick at that point?

Lamaar Chase is going to go in the top 10 also, so that's 5 or 6 players and 6 or 7 gone if Parson is taken before our pick.

So there's not 3 to 4 players worthy of the top 10 pick at their respective positions available?

Only way I trade down is 2 or 3 spots and pick up an extra 2nd because some team is steaming for a QB or whatever we're not wanting with our pick. Only so often do you get to add a top 10 pick to your roster on a rookie deal.

Especially when you believe you're going to do a deal with your QB.

imo parsons is not worth a top 10 pick.

Pretty much all of the so-called draft experts disagree about them not being worth the pick. I’m up for either of them at 10.

Grant is gonna go in the first.

I’ll be shocked if Philly doesn’t take a WR with their first pick. They have a lot of needs, but receiver is a glaring one and they’ll possibly have one of the top two available when they pick.
Yeah and we get to deal with them with our horrible secondary.
