Best Matchup for Divisional Round Game

http://cowboyszone.com/2017/01/best-matchup-for-divisional-round-game.html

Playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?! Yes Cowboys Nation we’re talking about the playoffs and yes we’re talking about it as the number one seed in the NFC. After quite the roller coaster of the season the Dallas Cowboys will be sitting on their couches watching their to be determined opponent fight for their lives this weekend in the Wild Card round after earning a first round bye.

There are three opponents the Cowboys have the chance of playing the Giants, Packers or Lions. If the Packers beat the Giants then the Cowboys will be hosting the NFC North Champs if the Giants beat the Packers then the Cowboys will have to face the only team that has had their number all season. The other scenario is if the Detroit Lions beat the Seattle Seahawks then the Detroit Lions will make the trip to Arlington for the divisional round game.

One thing all these teams have in common is they have all faced the Cowboys this season. The Cowboys beat the Green Bay Packers in week six 30-16 at Lambeau Field. That game was a rather easy win for the Cowboys. Aaron Rodgers couldn’t get much going and the running game was almost non existent. That was in week six and now we’re almost three months removed from that game. The Packers have changed in recent weeks. Aaron Rodgers is playing like the Aaron Rodgers everyone is used to seeing Jordy Nelson has posted all star numbers after starting out slow coming back from last years knee surgery. The running back position is the position that has seen the biggest improvement over the last few weeks. The Packers have turned to Ty Montgomery to handle a majority of the workload while giving former Cowboy and Seahawk Christine Michael carries here and there as well. Defenses having to worry about a runner in the Green Bay backfield makes Aaron Rodgers a nightmare to deal with. While the Packers offense is firing on all cylinders the Packers defense is Swiss cheese. Injures have depleted the defense and it has been a major weakness for the team all season. It’s rather easy to attack the secondary and the run defense has not been as stout as it was in the first part of the season. The Packers are the better of the three teams but have enough holes in their defense to allow the Cowboys to win the matchup through the air and on the ground. The Packers must get through the Giants first if they even want the opportunity to face the Cowboys a second time this season.

Third Times a Charm?

And that’s where we begin to talk about the Giants. The Giants are 2-0 when facing the Cowboys this year to most people that would be concerning but not for me. In both of the loses to the Giants the Cowboys lost be a combined total of four points. In each of those games I truly believe that the Cowboys outplayed the Giants in just about every aspect of the game. The thing that does worry me about playing the Giants is they have the best defense out of three possible teams the Cowboys could face with that being said they also have the worst offense out of the three. Eli Manning and the running game have been below average to average all year long. Now they do have a couple of wide receivers who can kill you if you let them but in the two games that Dallas has seen New York this year they’d kept the Giants receiving weapons under control. I think it will be tough for the Giants to beat the Packers but if they do I think that this matchup is most likely the best opportunity for a Cowboys victory...
