Whether we might or may not remain "the best team in the NFL," I'm still stubbornly determined to remain appreciatively happy and proud of the Dallas Cowboys, win or lose in the months ahead. To be candid, I'm not necessarily expecting anything beyond entering the playoffs this year.

To me, anything that happens to come our way in terms of postseason glory will simply be more blessings added. Sure, I'd like nothing better than to claim a division title, a deep run into the playoffs and possibly a Super Bowl win to boot. This season has been more than most of us ever expected, though, and that's rightfully reward enough in itself.

In view of the fact that it's extremely difficult to reach those glorious heights and that it takes a substantial element of luck to do so, I'll be content, simply realizing that this team has its QB and RB of the future. I also believe we can add to that an excellent opportunity for these Cowboys to maintain their competitive excellence for a long time to come. Anything beyond what this team has already achieved is icing on the cake. Of course, if this team sees fit to delight us with more wins to come, we'll take it gladly. ;)

Give Bill Bellichick time to prepare for our defense and they are likely 60-40 to beat us. I'm not saying they're a lot better than us, but they're probably better than us in a playoff atmosphere.

Other than that, we're probably favorites against anyone in the NFC

The wild cards are always injuries and instinct. Players still have to play and execute regardless of how smart the coach is.

Its a nice feeling right now but it doesnt mean anything. I really hope swaim and scandrick are able to play.

in the ny daily news they are doing exactly what I thought, down playing Dallas success and pointing to 07 as how the giants as the 5 seed are the best team.

This year has been incredible but I am restraining myself from being as excited as I want to be because of how two simple injuries derailed 07.

I really hope swaim and Scandrick are ok and mo and church need to be back for that game in NY. That game in NY is going to be the season. We will either win the division that day or fall into a battle for the 5 seed.

The bend-not-break defense still has me less than comfortable if we have to line up against a team like New England.
I wrote this in another post:

OK, it is Monday morning and time to evaluate the Cowboys and see if the predictions are good. What I saw Sunday was a good Steeler offense go though our defense like hot butter though a goose. This shows that the Cowboys defense is not good against very good offenses. It took a great effort by the Cowboys offense to win. In the playoffs this scenario normally leads to an early exit. So, this was a learning game to see were we are and what our expectations for the playoffs should be. You need a great defense to go to the Super Bowl and the Cowboys do not have that. Looks to me like it will take another draft to give us that kind of defense.:(

Yea we have a bit to go before claiming we are the best. Our schedule isn't the hardest and teams are gunning for us (they are upping their game). Other teams are playing good football too. I say it's too early to proclaim Cowboys are the best but I like being confident but no over confident. Time will tell, we have more football to play. Also on one play, the Pitt Defense bowled over our Prowbowl Offensive line; they must have summoned the power of Thor's hammer for that down.

Our defense was playing without Church, Mo, and Scandrick at the end. Hopefully those 3 guys will be healthy for a playoff run and make a difference on how our secondary holds up against elite passing offenses.

This D is not elite by any stretch-- but they have been fundamentally sound all year long, and I think they can rise to the occasion.

Eight straight wins is proof they can rise to the occassion. The defense is part of our success too. Will the bend but don't break be good enough? We'll see.

There was some great games yesterday and the NFL needed that. And whether anyone likes it or not, The NFL is better when the Cowboys and the Raiders are relevant.

what's amazing is the raiders are the second best team in the nfl.

down year for the nfl or record doesn't mean everything?

Perhaps a 3rd option, the Raiders and the Cowboys are really good. Why the hate?

Besides that you're not wrong but just inaccurate, the Chiefs, Raiders and Patriots are all 7-2.

Remember when we went 13-3 and loss one and done. Defense does matter alot.

This team feeds off each other and picks each other up in a way I have not seen since the 90s. The swagger is growing and they enjoy beating teams into the ground-- but beyond that, and even more importantly than that-- they have grown together this year as a family.

As much crap as I have given JG over the years, I now have to stand up and give him credit: His process is working and this team has bought into his system and philosophy and it is bearing fruit.

Really proud of these players and coaches right now. It's a great year to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys :flagwave:

The Patriots defense is actually kind of bad, they have just played teams that either never had a QB or were loaded with injuries. They finally ran into a Seahawks team after Wilson got healthy again, and their secondary suddenly looked like pure trash against Seattle's relatively weak wide receiver group. Hilariously, they were at their worst when they rushed 3 and dropped everyone into coverage and kept botching their zone assignments to give Wilson huge pass plays to wide open dudes. They've also given up chunk run plays to scrub running backs on top of that, so God knows what Zeke could do if they don't just load the box every snap.

I don't think the Cowboys defense is a good matchup vs. the Pats offense, because the way to beat Brady has always been with an overwhelming pass rush, which they don't have. But the Pats defense is absolutely not the one they had in 2014, no matter what the numbers say, so I don't see why the Cowboys offense couldn't do what it has done to everyone else all year and just push them around all over the field. It would be long drives by the Cowboys vs. Brady's ability to quickly score in bunches I think. Wear out a not-elite D with long drives most of the game, and suddenly big plays in the 4th quarter become a lot easier to come by - that's been the story of the Cowboys all year really.
