Yup. It was the best win in a few years. Dak was efficient, almost Aikman-esque.
This was one of those games that happen once a year, even once every two years.
So, my Spidey sense tells me that you throw out the worst performance and you throw out the best performance, like they do in judging gymnastics. And you're left with a more realistic assessment.
And I'd have to note some things:
1. As mentioned, Vikes had 7 straight one score wins. The one against the Bills was due to the Bills fumbling the snap, Vikes had nothing to do with that, make a clean snap, get a first down and very likely the Bills win. That was pure luck.
2. 3 of the 7 wins were against the Lions, Bears and Saints. Who are a currently a combined 11-21. Makes a team look better than they are.
3. Vikes had 2 consecutive road games, including the emotionally tough Bills game. Maybe fatigue was a factor.
Add those elements in, and like you said, you get a more realistic assessment of the Vikings.
Make no mistake, a 40-3 beatdown is impressive, no matter who you play. But let's not act like this game means Dallas is now one of the top 2-3 teams in the league. You could tell the Vikes got emotionally down after Dallas took the second half kickoff and promptly scored a td, especially after Maher hit the 60-yard fg (and really hit it twice), Vikes had to feel like it "just wasn't their day", to me it looked like they pretty much decided to mail it in the rest of the day. Maybe not, just seemed that way to me.
Let's see if Dallas can maintain this level of play. If so, I'll re-consider if they're one of the top 2-3 teams...
