I don't think a shark is there...unless it's a great white. More likely it's one of those mating/migration things.

Actually I have experienced a dolphin run such as this in 1991 whale watching in Southern Cali. It had absolutely nothing the first hour. Then, a Gray whale showed up along with its calf. Shortly after, there were hundreds upon hundreds of dolphins so thick you felt you could walk on their backs all the way back to the mainland.

I had a smile from ear to ear that lasted for days. I'll never forget that day.

Sharks are deterred by dolphins not the other way around.

I won't answer for him...but, just like life, sea creatures do hang around with other things like them. Blue Whales are HUGE and gentle creatures so dolphins are not afraid of them. And, from what I heard (On Amimal Planet)... big whales need tons of food, so the dolphins go with them.

I honestly don't know. The first hour of the tour sucked. It was nice being out in the open ocean but there was no sign of anything. Then, one of the guides spotted the tell-tale sign of a whale and that was a greenish footprint in the water, or the area of the water stirred behind the whale. We got closer and noticed that there was a calf with her as well. We couldn't get too close due to the obvious migration laws.

About ten minutes later, the dolphins started popping up everywhere and I mean everywhere. I went up to the bow and looked over into the water and saw about five feet down several of them riding the bow's currents like an invisible ride or something. They were coming up out of the water all over the place. This wasn't like 100 or so it was a LOT more. I couldn't see where they ended. It was a little uneasy to see so many creatures surround you no matter how friendly. They would jump up high enough to where I could be within five feet of touching their fins (but not hear close enough to attempt). I wish back then I had my camera! One of the best days of my life. The wind burn I had for days was worth it.
