Will the Dallas Cowboys be better off if/when Stephen Jones takes over? Or will it be the status quo?

That's the million dollar question.

The only honest answer is we don't know. Will he hire a GM?

He has publicly said several times in the last 3-4 years that, when he's in charge, an experienced GM will be hired to run the Cowboys; I do think however, that he might handle signings, etc., since that is what he's been doing for quite a few years.

He will do some things the same and some things different. He is not one for the limelight like Jerry is. I think he knows the franchise needs some attention so there is a possibility he would bring in someone to be that spotlight. I have a feeling I know who it would be, but it's just speculation on my part.

I honestly believe things will be much better with Stephen at the helm and look forward to that day with great anticipation. :starspin

What are his qualifications?

How does he compare to someone like Ted Thompson who played 10 years in the NFL and then spent 10-15 years as a field scout and the eventually worked himself into the front-office and then finally became a NFL GM?

Does he have any experience doing scouting?

He doesn't.

I'm hoping he's smart enough to hire a GM when he takes over.

This can't be serious, and the response right below it is really something no one should take seriously.

Aikman.

I don't understand your response.

Stephen Jones doesn't compare. He didn't earn his way through the system through performance. He just happened to have a rich father. He didn't know the first thing about scouting before he became the right hand man for this team's GM.

That's just the fact of the matter. No team in the league would hire Stephen Jones to GM or scout. I don't like it anymore than anyone else. But it is what it is. I'm left to hope he's smart enough to know that he doesn't know and to get a guy in here who does know.

If he does that, then yes....we'll be better off with Stephen.

Stephen Jones is a football guy. Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and just about anyone in the NFL will tell you this. Please look it up if you doubt me. He is on the competition committee and is one of the most respected minds in the NFL.

Ted Thompson's way to GM is the only way to be compared to? Someone needs to go break that news to Tex Schramm who never played. Bill Polian and Scott Pioli must suck as GMs in comparison to Thompson because they never played.

You wonder about if Stephen is involved in scouting? I can't help but wonder what you think he is doing at the Drafts and in contract negotiations. Of course he is involved.

Read my response directly below because you have no earthly idea what the hell you are babbling about.

I don't believe he will be the GM. He will probably hire someone to do that. But I can't seem him not being a hands off owner fully. I don't expect him him to sit back and have no say in anything, Also I can still see him being heavily involved with the NFL offices like Jerry is, but I do believe you will see a football guy brought in.

You don't have to have played to be a good GM. That I agree with.

But if you become the director of personnel for an NFL team without any background whatsoever in player personnel, yeah....you're not really a personnel guy. You're the son of a rich father.

Does he have some experience now? Sure. To not very good results.

It's a performance business. I certainly want change when Jerry is no longer around. Not the status quo that has failed year after year after year.

I'd prefer that Stephen hire a GM. If he does, then I would say Stephen, if not, then it doesn't really matter.

Steven has pretty much taken over as is. This is it.

Yeah, I think he and Garrett swing a lot of weight in the organization right now. And that's good....
