There are a ton of threads every day about signing some bigtime player. As many of you have pointed out if we sign one of these guys we are going to lose a big name player already on our roster.

We have to sign Canty, Hamlin, Barber, Newman, and Ware at some point.

I have no doubt we are picking a CB at #22 and we will get a good one because of all the depth at the position in this years draft. I just don't know how much talent difference there is between a WR at 28 and 2nd or 3rd round? I am just not in awe of any WR that will be available for us at 28. I like the idea someone else had about trading out of 28 and picking Ray Rice.

I have a feeling we will end up with Pacman as well. Everyone blasted Jerry for TO and Jerry was right in the end. Second chances are important in life and you would be surprised how a persons mindset changes when he enters a healthy environment. Valley Ranch was a healthy environment for TO and I think it will be for Pacman as well. Let's face it Dallas is a hot ticket right now and we can get good players cheaper than other teams can.

If we get a top CB and Ray Rice in the draft I will be so happy :)

but we must WOW or we suck.

we're doing just fine. those who need daily reminders it's ok get anxious.

Well what about
1.Terry Glenn
2.Sam Hurd
3.Miles Austin
4.Patrick Crayton
5.Anthony Henry
6.Roy Williams
7.Bobby Carpenter
8.Akin Ayodele
9.Marcus Spears
10.Anthony Fassano
Ten players right off the top of my head that can be replaced through practice squad draft and free agency. I mean we could cut alot of fat if we wanted. I don't know why it is so hard for Jerry to admit he screwed up on a draft pick or two... or fifteen. Anyway why do we keep players around that don't produce?

Lets say we traded for a big name WR and we draft a WR in say the 3rd round.
WR
Trade Ayodele 09's 1st and 08's 5th for Boldin
Draft Jordy Nelson in the 3rd
So our WR's would be Owens, Boldin, Stanback, Hurd/Austin and Nelson
We could cut Crayton, Glenn and Hurd/Austin. Or even trade some of them to the AFC Cowboys (Dolphins) and we would free up some space by trading Ayodele.

Lets say we trade for Hall and Jones at CB. and draft a CB in the 4th.
CB
Trade Henry and a 2nd for Hall
Trade a 6th for Pacman and sign him to a 2 year cap min risk free deal
Draft Justin King in the 4th
We would save some space by trading Henry.

Fassano, Spears, Carpenter and Williams could be traded to Miami for some picks and could free up some cap space if not this year then next.
We could redo Romo's contract resign T.O., Boldin, Newman, Hall, Jones, Ware, Canty and Barber to save more space.
Back load most of the contracts for 2010 like the Raiders are doing and we would be set. We would still have 2 first round picks this year and could take a shot at 2 1st round RB's or trade up for a RB. I would like to grab 2 so we have better chances of getting a good back to share time with Barber.

In the end our offense wasn't able to put up big points against that Giant defense. It only happens a little that neither could the Packers or the Pats, but we play the Giants twice a year and gotta make sure we got all the weapons Romo will need to remain on top of the NFC East, win the playoffs game and win the SB. I'd be very surprised if we don't draft a WR early but it all depends on whose available. BTW: Some seem to think we should be drafting a speedy WR to replace Glenn. Frankly, I see us drafting somebody more like to replace TO so he can be groomed to step in whenever TO goes down but also can take over the #2 WR job until then. This draft will certainly be a big key towards fulfilling our SB aspirations.

We cannot afford another player as things stand today. In fact we had to shed some depth and contributers from the 13-3 squad just to get to this point.

Pacman is a big name.

Lets go see what Derek Ross, Bruce Thorton, Frazier, Reggie Swinton, Woddy Danztler, and those guys are up 2

We were far and away the best team in the NFC for most of the year until injuries limited our WR corps at the end of the season.

We have needed to draft a WR in the early rounds for a while now but have instead gone after defensive players. Now it has come back to bite us in the keaster.

We don't need one overpriced, big name player to put us over the top but solid depth at key positions so that we are not in the same boat again next season. If we want to continue to compete over the next several seasons then we need to draft well and develop young players instead of always looking to FA to fill needs.

FA should be used to fill immediate, critical needs, which we don't have right now, as well as to bring in solid veterans.

Last offseason we had a critical need for a starting RG and went out and got Leonard Davis. That is the kind of FAs we should go after, not overpriced or always-in-trouble players.

There are no players in this draft that we need desperately enough to justify trading up for (unless it is only a couple of spots).

That WOW player is always a HUGE risk and usually isn't worth it. Owens has turned out OK but Joey Galloway certainly was not worth what we gave up to get him and we wouldn't have needed to sign Owens if we would have drafted better and developed a WR once in a while.

I think all fa signings are risky and potentially bad for a team! Obviously that is not the case, but I do love the way pittsburgh and indy operate.

And I think the biggest mistake a team makes is replacing a free agent with a free agent. that is why I am glad we didnt do that at wr or cb this offseason.

There aren't even any big name FAs left...and I'm glad

No, but that loser Adam Jones' name keeps coming up. :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

I still don't get the parallels some posters draw between Owens (or even Haley) and Jones. The big difference is RAP SHEET. Owens never has had one, short of peoples' opinions of how well he got on in the locker room with former teams. And it seems most of TO's ex-teammates were not that thrilled when he left, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.

The Jones thing carries far more risk than Owens ever did. There's the benefit of some hindsight in that statement, but I'm not a believer in the "end justifies the means".

Do you believe that you should be condemned forever for past mistakes?
