If Dixon continues to play the way he did in the first preseason game, I for one would not be at all opposed to seeing some 3-3-5 going on, with the nickel DB being an extra safety. This defense requires speed, and having Church, Wilcox, and Dixon on the field would assist with that, while at the same time hiding our inadequacies along the defensive line. Dixon seemed to have a nose for the ball.

Couldn't hurt, right?

My assumption is that you want beefier DL when you go 3-3-5 or the defense won't be able to hold against the run.

Who would those 3 DL be?

You would run it in passing situations. I don't think we will see much, if any 3-3-5.

Candidates: Crawford, McClain, Melton, Bass. Probably missing one or two.

Why not just have Dixon play LB and tell him to take a deeper drop than the LB's generally do?

The problem is, Dixon can't cover any better than the LB's we are sending out there right now.

I saw we run nickel 60% of the time. Our secondary is actually pretty legit.

Scandrick - Carr - Claiborne - Church - Wilcox

Then our only decent LBers might just be

Carter - McClain

Then get our best pass rushers on the D-line.

Lawrence - Crawford - Melton - Selvie
