I honestly felt we would do very little movement in this draft. Then we cut Flozell and K. Hamlin. Our secondary is lacking...we need a 5th CB and at least 3 safeties to go with Sensabaugh and M. Hamlin. I feel we need a replacement for Cricket. We could always use a young ILB to season for when Brooking retires.
So with all of this in mind, I feel we will be wheeling and dealing during this draft.
1 - traded for 2, 4, 5
2 - traded down in the 2, add a 4
2a - FS - Morgan Burnett - GT
I would take Nate Allen here also, but he will be gone. Burnett is a ballhawking safety, something our secondary is desperate for.
2b (ours) - OT - Jared Veldheer - Hillsdale
Big, athletic, intelligent, and can play LT. I like him or Saffold, but Saffold will be gone by this pick. Veldheer is one helluva consolation prize.
3 (ours) - WR - Jacoby Ford - Clemson or Jordan Shipley - Texas
we have a need at the slot WR, as well as KR. Either of these two are great prospects for what we need. If both are available when we pick, the homer in me wants Shipley, but at the same time, Ford's speed makes me salivate like wolf looking downhill at a huge flock of sheep.
4 - trade down in the 4 and add a 6
4a - C - J.D. Walton - Baylor
Dallas has been eyeing this guy for a while. He is your typical OL from the state of Texas...just a big ole brawler. He is intelligent and versatile. He can play all 3 interior positions if need be.
4b - S/CB - Myron Lewis - Vanderbilt
Another great athlete for our secondary. He is quite versatile, being able to play CB and both S positions. He is intelligent and an on field leader.
4c (ours) - OG - Marshall Newhouse - TCU
He is my second favorite OG in the draft, behind Iupati. I love this guy. He is your typical Texas mauler.
5 - ILB - Pat Angerer - Iowa
He is great in coverage, something vital for a 3-4 ILB. He just seems to make plays. I would definitely call him a ballhawk, which is odd for an ILB.
6 - traded for two 7s
6 (ours) - SS - Myron Rolle - FSU
I think Rolle might be a steal here. His intelligence cannot be questioned.
7a - DT - Earl Mitchell - Arizona
This pick came out of nowhere for me. But as I was reading various bios, this guy reminded me an aweful lot of Jay Ratliff.
7b - OT - J'Marcus Webb - WTAMU
If he had been able to stay at Texas, he probably goes in the top 2 rounds. However, he goes to a small school and falls to the 7th. Mark my words, he will be a steal. He can play 4 out of the 5 OL positions.
7c (ours) - FB/HB - Chris Gronkowski - Arizona
good-bye and good riddance Cricket. Take your stupid butt back to Time Square. We get a real HB. CG is one helluva blocker and a very underrated receiver out of the backfield. I believe he will be the best blocking FB we have had since Moose and the best receiving FB since Richie Anderson.
