Ro Mclain or Martin?

I was just thinking about this and figured I'd get the Zone's opinion.

It's a tough question, really tough, so stop with the "cop out" answers! Who you got?

One saved the defense from being a complete disaster and the other solidified an OL that the team desperately needed to be dominant in order to succeed. Right now I'd say their impacts are equal, but long term I'd say Ro because if the DL improves Ro could become a real play maker on defense.

Difficult question.

I don't think Martin was the only reason for the success of the offense and running game. The biggest change was the commitment to the running game and the new Offensive Coordinator. Bernadeau was a reasonably good player in the 2nd half of last season.

At LB they squeaky by with just barely enough healthy players. They did win a game with RoMc not playing.

For the season I would say that RoMc would be the most important, but right now for the upcoming games with Hitchens playing well and showing that he can also play MLB, I think Martin would be missed more than RoMc.

I have to go with Martin. Both outstanding players but Ro has been forced to miss time due to injury and Martin has been there for the full 15 games thus far

Tough to say. Ro really saved us. The D-line has been as bad as we expected at generating pressure. The secondary has been about what I expected. I think the LBers are what kept our defense together this season. There was a stretch when the LBers were playing some amazing football. Carter was playing great before getting injured and going back to being inconsistent. Durant was playing great before getting injured. Hitchens got the opportunity to step up and he surprised everyone. And we all know Sean Lee's injury before the season was a death sentence. But Ro really came in here and made the LBer corps the most solid unit on defense despite all the injuries.

Good point and reminds me that the front office stated that they were focusing on tough durable and smart players. Martin and hitch fill that bill to a tee

Better player has been Martin, more important Ro. His presence has really helped give the defense an identity and saved the team from another call to Ernie Sims.

I'm not sure Martin is a more talented player than Ro. But Ro has been slowed by injuries for a month and doesn't exactly have dominating defensive lineman in front of him to keep him clean. Meanwhile Martin plays on a cohesive unit that has two other probowlers and an All Pro.

I do agree to a point though. Martin has had the better season. Ro completely changed the direction of the defense.

Martin in a landslide. He made that unit the best in the NFL and is only a rook. Amazing.
