Biggest defensive play in Dallas Cowboys history?

Everything I type is a lie. Except that. And that.

littlewebs, I think some might think you're only referring to the two against O'Donnell in the Super Bowl, but let me see if we're on the same page here. You say three, and I'm assuming the third, which was actually the first in a chronological sense, is the one no one ever seems to speak of from the '95 postseason, but it was HUGE: His 4th quarter pick of Favre in the NFC Championship when we were only up by 4 and they were driving. That one was a beauty, he cut in front of I believe Robert Brooks at the last second and made a great play.

Excellent catch. That is why I said 3. That sealed a game that Favre still had a chance to come back and win. Maybe this year Henry can be our Larry Brown to Newman's Deion.

Too Tall tipped the pass, then Jeffcoat caught it and ran it back.

bb, I thought that was on a Monday Nighter earlier that season, in the first game against them. I remember that play vividly as well. I'll look it up, because I'm almost positive Scott made the big pick in the late-season contest that sealed the division that year.

How about Kevin Smith's controversial 4th down deflection of a Plummer-to-Rob Moore end zone jump ball at the end of the '98 contest against the Cards in the desert? We had a 35-7 lead and almost gave it all back, 35-28 was the final, with the turnover on downs by the Cards that ended the game coming with them surrendering the ball inside our 5. Everyone on the Cardinals, as was vogue in those days, was jumping up and down yelling for a PI call on Smith.

Yeah I know, who really cares, I just remember it because it's the only time post-Achilles injury that I can recall Smith catching a break from an official on a potential PI situation. :)

Don't forget about Leon Lett's fumble return for a near TD in the SB. Maybe not a game changer but definately a memorable moment

I would like to forget that as well as the attemped recovery of the a blocked kick by Lett on Thanksgiving. I was at that game and while many around me where cheering for what looked to be a certain Cowboy win I was in the stands hollering for Lett to stop. I swear if I had a gun I would have taken him down before he touched that ball. :laugh1:

I still have that game on tape. I'll never forget that there a vibe that afternoon of the Packers just not quitting, coming back each and every time we thought we had them with yet another scoring drive. I was getting real worried right before that pick, because we were having trouble putting the clamps on them that day for sure. I'm still P.O.'d at Robert Jones, who seemed to stand like a statue most of the day in the middle of the field as Keith Jackson ran around him for big catches.

Jeffcoat definitely ran it back for a td in the last game of the year, with the division on the line. It was a Sunday afternoon game. Maybe Scott had a pick in that game too. Can't remember.

The biggest defensive play in Cowboys history had to have come in the biggest win in the team's history, which, as has been said, was the first SB win.

Super Bowl VI was a scoreless tie and the Dolphins were the first team to cross midfield. Larry Csonka took a handoff and, for the first time all season, fumbled. Chuck Howley recovered, then the Cowboys offense drove to the one-yard line and kicked the FG for the first score of the game.

That play turned the game around, and was the spark for the best performance by a defense in the history of the Super Bowl. After Lilly's famous sack of Griese, Howley later intercepted a Griese pass and returned it 40 yards, leading to Dallas' last TD.

And this was NOT the Super Bowl in which Howley was named MVP! That was the year before.

Howley and Jerry Rice are the only players who were All-Pro at least five times, won SB MVP, and are not in the Hall of Fame.

You've got it backwards. Scott got the interception at the end of the crazy Monday Night Game (where Simms threw for some ridiculous yardage), Jeffcoat got the pick that essentially gave us the NFC East.

Please fill in the blanks. I have no idea what you are talking about.
I find that very discouraging. Check out the 1991 season and you'll find it. Ike Holt = legend.

Gee, I totally forgot about the Jeffcoat TD off Too Tall's deflection in 1985.

That was SWEET.
