When you hire a coaching staff and front office of yes men and suck ups ........ this is what you get.

Yep, I gotta give ya credit for reminding me of this simple fact that I had been overlooking.

I am not a Flus apologist but I think the overall personnel he was given to work with is extremely lacking.

But this should not cover up the fact that his good linebacker coach reputation is nowhere to be found with this group.
Is it a terrible group? Yes.
But could he still be doing a better job especially based off past reputation?
Yes.

That's my answer.

What I want to know is who picked this group? For all of his flaws, Jerry generally lets his coaches have a say in the player decisions. Did Flus think he could make a solid duo out of Sanborn and Murray? Not to mention the DL additions.

I mean, most of the offseason offensive additions have panned out, the defensive ones have been abysmal.

There is zero talent in that LB room right now. DO is hurt. Shemar has some potential but he is a rookie. Liufau clearly is too stupid to play. They gave up on Clark. Sanborn was the worst LB I have ever seen. Murray clearly went to the Clear Eye school football. It is a horrendous group. The GM and his cheap son brought that together. I don't blame Eberflus for this. Play after play this week you saw guys refuse to fill gaps. Too slow and no instincts are part of that. The other part is a lack of toughness and no accountability. The culture is toxic. Look at the HC. No one would hire him yet there he is. This fish rots from the head down.

Like Rod Marinelli was supposed to be this amazing DC who "coached up" players? The LB-ers on this team are perhaps the worst group of accumulated talent in the NFL. Like literal dog crap level. The one decent talent they have is Overshown who can't stay healthy.

This was the worst LB core in the NFL before he arrived. We have almost nothing invested in the position.

Sanborn was brought over from Chicago bc he supposedly “knew the system”

Murray is supposed to be an athletic freak who can’t read and react, but just “needed a change in scenery”

Liafu is a mystery because he flashed last season under Zimmer and was supposed to be the heir apparent to Kendricks— but he has been in the doghouse for some unknown reason

The bottom line is this: how could players that played LBer in college simply forget how to fill, shed, and tackle? They look like they never played the position before!

To me— they look like a bunch of guys making business decisions out there. Playing safe and scared and unwilling to sacrifice their body to make a play.

That is on coaching— Schotty included of course. Bench guys who freelance or don’t play to scheme. Play the guys who play the game the right way.

It’s just bizarre that a LB “guru” is on staff but the unit looks this atrocious. Inexcusable
