Biggest surprise cut/keep.
(other than Dan Bailey)

For Dan Bailey thread go here:

For me it was DT Daniel Ross.

I saw hints that they liked him when he got early playing time in PS games 3 and 4; however, I thought they might just be making a point because he played/practiced with very high effort.

I didn't focus him him per se, but I did focus on the DTs in general when reviewing the PS games. I also watched all of the 1 on 1 drills that were available on videos.

He just didn't look overly strong or overly quick in games or practices. I remember him struggling when he saw double team blocks. He did practice/play with super high effort.

I thought both Price and Reid were better than Ross.

Now I need to re-review him.

Did I just not focus on him enough and really misevaluate him or did Marinelli give him the Golden Cock treatment of being rewarded for effort?

I thought they would keep more than two RBs and one FB. And when they didn't I thought they had one in mind from another team yesterday. I guess they're serious about Austin being a "web back".

Some minor surprises, mostly related to depth. Was initially surprised they only kept 2 RBs, but they covered that with the practice squad. Depth a bit thin at safety and even CB. I thought they might try to slide a QB to the practice squad. Keeping Noah Brown instead of Thompson was a somewhat big surprise, but it sounds like Brown may go to IR and Thomson may be re-signed.

My biggest surprise is the lack of additions post cuts....i really thought this team would try to add a veteran safety or cb...and a qb....appaerlty I must be missing something...hope my feelings are wrong

They did add a veteran safety, just not one that is particularly notable.

Yeah...but I was referring more to someone that made us better....didnt have to be ET either

As noted elsewhere, they whiffed at S. They blew this 4 months ago when they could have added a legitimate S type like a Boston or Vaccarro.

Thinking they were going to find someone of that ilk in roster cuts was fool's gold. So we are left with hoping Woods' hamstring is not going to be an issue all year.

Of corse we were choosing from guys that were released, so not much chance of any notable upgrade. I thought Ron Parker was the only safety that had a strong chance to make us better.

Yeah...cpuld have tried to make a trade with a lower round pick too....i just don't know what value was there that could be had....guess it's too late now

Thought Darius Jackson would have stuck. But the did get him on the PS. Thought he looked much better then before

Rush was more of a surprise than Rico to me. I expected him to be released yesterday in favor of a cut QB with more upside. We ain't gonna be worth squat anyway if Dak goes down. So why not keep two QBs with potential instead of one with some and one with none.

Forget the arrest, Rico at least can be a goal line/short yardage weapon, even without good football knowledge.

In the end, as long as he is on the PS, it's fine. I could see us only making 2 TBs (Elliott, Smith) active on game days anyway.

The Cowboys didn't like or want those players. Fans need to accept that and go on rather than marinate it every day.

And that's their mistake IMO.

We now have a depth problem at S and if Woods' hamstring is a recurring issue, which Cowboys fans are all too aware of, safety could be a big problem for this team.
