Yup. All our coaches suck...the team is doomed, front office can't think straight....Dak is awful...etc etc.

2nd best record in all of NFL over two seasons is a fluke.

Love the straw man rebuttals before anyone says a word here.

It's a stat. It is out of context unless all factors are included.

LOL..........go back one more year and what does that look like? Talk about convenient timeline to prove a laughable point. And gotta love the (regular season) only tag.

And this is what you would call moving the goalposts. Very impressive, so far we have some "straw man rebuttals" and some goalposts moves, all in one thread. Not too bad imo.

What goalpost was moved? Sounds like a strawman.

I invite you to walk us through the factors and context that need inclusion.

I simply state our win-loss over the past season and a half and people start driving into the ditch about it?

If one's views melt under exposure to a little light...what does it say about one's views?

@TwoDeep3 refusing to acknowledge the Cowboy's 17-6 record since last season. because according to him, "It's a stat. It is out of context unless all factors are included", is a good example of moving the goalposts imo.

Dallas is 11 games over .500 during the past four seasons, which puts them in the top 8 of all teams if you want to extend the time-frame.

I think most fans are most fans are interested in the recent past, but there you go.

If you can't point to the specific goalpost that was moved, it's a terrible example. Can you point to a specific goalpost?

I don't think I can help you comprehend. Try google. Good luck.

I think most fans are interested in winning the SB's and playoff success. But even with your "lately only regular season" standard this has been Garretts record:

8-8, 8-8, 8-8, 12-4, 4-12 13-3, 4-3

I can tell you that I am not impressed in the least. His record is basically 500 save for the one 13-3 season with little to no playoff success to show for it.

Stats are numbers. Their meaning is arbitrary unless you delve into the facts behind them.

Simply put, last year this team had one of the easiest schedules in the league. This year not so much. That doesn't take away their accomplishment, because you have to play the schedule. But to post a 17-6 record to brag about doesn't take in that fact of ease of schedule.

Miami had an undefeated season once. Yet they are considered to have had the third easiest schedule in the history of the NFL. Does that make them the best? I don't believe so.

Dan Marino and Tony Romo neither won Super Bowls. How do they figure in the history of the NFL?

This stat reminds me of off-season football when they tested people for their foot speed. They classified the groups. The slowest were called the turtles. I recall the coaches put me in that group because they didn't pay much attention since I was not a stud player. I lapped the guys several times because I was much faster, and should have been in the top group.. So I was the fastest in the turtle. Comparatively speaking I may have been a bit above middle of the pack of fastest guys there.

So should I brag about my "first place?" Statistically I smoked those guys.

See my point. I suspect not.

One last point. When was the last Super Bowl win for this team? 1995.

So we are twenty one years away from a championship. Most, if not all of the factual bragging rights I know of about this sport is championships.

Champions don't argue any stat but that stat. All the rest rely on statistical fallacy to support flagging egos about teams that are not champions.

So no?

You said a goalpost was moved. I simply asked which goalpost. If you can't provide one, then I can only assume it was either another strawman argument, or you don't understand what the phrase 'moving the goalposts' means.
