RIP. Yeah it is surprising that this did not get out in this day and age. And it absolutely shows why he was not interested; my respect for him increased greatly as a man. He did the right thing.

Best wishes and Godspeed to the Cowher family. There are times in life when the place of career comes sharply into perspective as we are reminded of the limited span of time we are permitted here. We frequently like to think we are masters of our destiny....but we are not.

I'm going to assume she had melanoma, and someone who knows first hand how nasty this cancer is(My mother is currently battling it), it is something extremely difficult to deal with as a family. I have gained a large amount of respect for coach Cowher for his decision and offer my deepest condolences to him and his daughters. The only comfort you can try and take from this is realize she is no longer in pain and hope there is a heaven and hell and she is now in a much better place. I'm sure she was a beautiful person and the world is not a better one with her loss.

Very sad.

I won't ever forget the images of her and their kids waiting for him after SB XXX ended and giving him a consoling hug. They were a very close family.

That's far too young. I can't even fathom the pain he's in right now....my heart goes out to him.

Reminds me of the suddenness of Zimmer's wife's passing. Condolences to the Cowher family.

As much as I hate the Steelers, I couldn't help but like Bill Cowher. I feel really bad for him and his three daughters.

As much as I despise anything Steelers related my thoughts and prayers go out to Cowher. "The Jaw" is a football icon in my opinion. He exudes toughness and what football is all about. I'd like to see him back in the NFL.

I hope everything works out for him and his family.

The Cowhers live here in the Raleigh area and this hit the community pretty hard. He's an ex-NC State guy and has lots of fans/friends here.

As everyone else said, now this explains why he resigned and why he hasn't taken a new HC job anywhere.

My wife and I will celebrate our 30th this Monday (Bob Lilly's birthday) and I don't know what I would do without here. My heart goes out to Bill and the girls. A terrible loss for them.

I will never forget the picture of Bill Kissing his wife and kids after superbowl 30. I thought what a wonderful family. My prayers go out to the family.
