DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – About one month into draft preps, my 2014 Big Green NFL Draft Scouting Notebook is getting filled by the day. With all the top draft prospects headed to Indianapolis this week for the annual NFL Scouting Combine, what better time to unveil my Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft 2.0.
Much will change after all the coaches and scouts get a chance to watch and time the prospects in The Underwear Olympics in Indianapolis starting later this week. And remember, this year’s draft isn’t until May 7. So we are still very early in the process. But let’s see where things stand prior to the combine.
Much like last year, I propose a trade down in the first round in order to acquire another 3rd round pick. This team needs to do as much as it can to acquire as many top 100 picks as possible.

Bill Jones should stick to reading the news, that mock is awful

Aside from the multiple ACL players, it was not the worst I have seen. Replace Easley with Donald and it looks better. I liked the Telvin Smith choice quite a bit and it makes a lot of sense. Darby is a favorite of mine as well.

I like it. Other than a WR in the 3rd, it looks solid to me. I'd go with a guard in the 3rd instead of WR; I'd look for a vet to backup Dez and Williams if Austin refuses to take a pay cut.

no TE? we know this won't happen. And yes I would be looking for an interior line guy somewhere high also.

Read it again. He said take Donald first then Easley in the 4th.

This mock is a disgrace.

Easley in the 2nd?

Okay, fine.

In the 1st?

Not a snowball's chance.

This team needs some speed at LB but only if they can get to the ball and make tackles. I haven't seen enough of him but at that height and weight I'm thinking safety. He sounds more like a FS but he could be in the mold of a Derrick Brooks or even a Dwight Smith.

i agree, replace Easley (a first round pick with two ACL injuries already…too risky) with Donald…I'd also take DE Ealy or a trade down for Trent Murphy. I'd use the extra pick on a OL, probably a G. I could def live with the rest of that draft however.

"This is a top of the first round talent whose draft stock is up in the air due to ACL injuries to both knees. The good news is those are the only two ACLs he has, and you rarely hear of a player tearing the same ACL twice."
uh didn't RGIII tear the same ACL twice? Either way, I've definitely heard of athletes tearing the same ACL multiple times.

I actually like it a lot. He addresses the Easley pick and mentions Donald instead.

I love the draft. Easley is obviously a risk, but I like taking a risk/reward player vs. the steady dependable guys that everyone else is leaning towards.

Love Telvin Smith in 2 as well. And Huff. And the FB

At least Bill Jones is a true draftnik like a lot of us. He puts a lot of study into his mocks and they're his own opinions... Unlike, say, a Watkins who just puts out minimal effort and parrots the draft websites he's seen.

That's the best explanation I've heard from anybody about Easley. I had NO idea he was such a leader.

I like what he added about Smith's energy and Darby's leadership skills as well. We need players like that. Those are true RKGs.

I am still sticking with...
DL, DL, LB / S / OG
then go for position of LB or S or OG, which ever was not addressed in the 3rd, or if BPA even WR, RB [maybe, not sure if RB in top 5]

I don't think his draft was all that horrible, but seen much better. But still very early for more realistic mocks, but enjoy them. I like all the different opinions, by so called experts as well as fans.
