In his diatribe, Parcells mentions "the apparel companies and the power drink companies and Subway sandwiches," which almost specifically points toward Griffin. Eisen asks Parcells directly if he would put Griffin in that category, and Parcells says "Sure. Would I? He's the poster boy!"
But here's where his point goes a little astray.
"Why don't you take a look at Andrew Luck. You don't see him doing any of that stuff, do you? Because somebody told him, his father, that's what we're doing. But I'm just telling you, it happens. I can list them. There's five, six in the last three or four years. They're high picks, they're lauded, they're paid money, they give up draft choices for them, the apparel companies want them, the power drink companies want them, and they forget they've got to play. They're too busy building their brand. They've got to play.
"And that's why (Tony) Romo's had a good career, because that didn't happen to him. He had to grind his way onto the team. He didn't even think he was going to make it. We had four quarterbacks; if we didn't have an issue with one of them he might not have made it."

I understand the Business aspects of things but I still think that at the center, you have to love Football more then you want whatever else, if you want to be successful in the NFL. Especially if you are playing QB.

It's ok for players to focus on their brand if they can actually play good play. GR3 still can't see the field to be a difference maker even if he could stay healthy. I still don't understand why the Commanders don't just cut him.

Exactly what I was saying. RG3's contract isn't the worst in NFL history, that belongs to Haynesworth probably. What I really love is the NFLN top 10 worst free agent signings show. The Commanders own the #1 overall with multiple players.

I agree. Griffin's contract wouldn't even be in the top ten worst thanks to the rookie salary cap. I think Sam Bradford's rookie contract with the Rams is much worse than the Griffin deal. Bradford got $50 million guaranteed. The trade for Griffin might be the worst move ever made.

That would be admitting defeat. Danny says no!

He sounded too old school on the Rich Eisen show. A little bit dated.

Parcells is a dinosaur on many many topics.

RGIII was never as good as Luck, it has nothing to do with branding.

It seems to work ok for Brady, Manning and Rodgers.

I think bill was referring to young players who havent established themselves in the NFL yet.

Yep.

Walking around with head held high for accomplishments (landing endorsement deal accomplishments) I mean.
Then going into practice and meetings... Teammates feeling like he is not part of team but golden boy/solo. It's me and this is my team.

Peyton manning is another one. It's a little tricky but he falls into same category. Marketing/commercials/endorsements... If I kept losing Super Bowls I would buckle down and at least "try" to go into "eye of tiger" mode.

One doesn't have anything to do with the other. RGIII had a great rookie season and would be an idiot to turn down marketing opportunities. You never know how long of a career you will have, strike while the iron is hot.

Robert Griffin has a better career passer rating than Andrew Luck. And RGIII hasn't thrown five interceptions in two games so far this year.

But Luck is white. Which for old school football guys like Parcells is what really matters. Because if you are a white quarterback, you get the benefit of the doubt.

If Andrew Luck keeps throwing interceptions (as he has throughout his career) then people say he's "trying too hard." If it happens to RGIII, then he has let all the deals get to him.

I agree you have to strike while you can; however, Griffin was doing commercials before and during his rookie season.
