I remember the games that we played against the 49ers and How mad i would get. But has I have grown older and look back.. what Walsh did as a coach was nothing short of spectacular. He was a true coach and a football genius. My best wishes to the family and friends of Coach Walsh. The NFL is the sport we love today because of men like him. RIP.

Either I never knew he was ill or I just really don't remember but this is a shocker.

Wow. Whether anyone liked him or not he was a good coach and a respected member of the NFL for years.

He also helped Jerry in some advisory or consultant roles.

RIP Coach Walsh.

A great ambassador for the game.

I remember he was part of the announcing team in 1991 that did the Cowboys/Steelers game that season...

There were talking about the Dallas 12th round draft pick who was playing cornerback that day (Larry Brown) and how 12th rounders aren't suppose to be able to start in the NFL.

Walsh just said something to affect, "The guy can run, he can cover and he can tackle. He looks like he can play to me."

Just the way Walsh said it you knew Brown was going to do OK.

I also remember Irvin going apeshat on the Steelers that day and dragging Pitt's Woodson up & down the field.

He sure did. I am just glad that he wasnt HC for the 92-93 NFC title games against us.

Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh, 75, died today after a long battle with leukemia.

“This is a tremendous loss for our league and the entire sport of football," Jerry Jones said in a statement released by the Cowboys. "Bill was an innovator, a motivator and ultimately one of the most dynamic coaches in NFL history. From my earliest days of involvement in the NFL, he was a friend who always had time to offer his counsel and advice. His leadership defined the 49ers as the Team of the 1980s, and his legacy will be as one of the best we have ever seen.”

Added Wade Phillips: “Bill Walsh set a standard for a generation of NFL head coaches that was a cut above the rest. His offensive philosophies changed the game in the 1980s, and his influence helped so many of his assistant coaches move on to the next level. He was a wonderful contributor to this league, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
