almost $20/mil year for a junk qb, wow.
He had the best QB rating of any QB in Bills history last season. He played really well. Who knows if that was a fluke or not.
Terrible deal. They should fire the GM immediately and the owner should punch himself in the face. 100 million for that junk lol lol you deserve to lose.
Interesting that they do it now, after only starting one year. Guess it's to get him cheaper if he continues his play.
IMO I would of done it like Romo was handled. Re-sign him in the middle of the year, to make sure he is still your QB of the future.
I'd say it was a fluke. The guy has only 410 career pass attempts with 380 coming last season. The more he plays, the more defenses will figure him out.
14 games
242 completed passes out of 380
3,035 passing yards
8.0 passing average
20 passing TDs to 6 INTs
104 rushing attempts for 568 yards and 4 TDs
99.4 QB rating
With how tough it is to find quality QBs these days, I see no issue with this signing. Bills obviously like him a lot and for good reason. He's only 27 years old, had the benefit to sit his first few years and develop and took full advantage of his starting opportunity. Not seeing the problem here.
The challenge is if you watched all of the Buffalo games in which he started you could come away thinking those stats aren't real.
They relied on his passing less than maybe any other team in the NFL.
The passes he threw were very conservative for the most part. He's a wonderful deep passer, which jacks up the YPA and he throws a ton of short passes that result in a high completion percentage and a low interception percentage. He did not do a lot of damage beyond 10 yards between the hashes.
This year will be telling now that there's a lot of video available on him.
The Bills gave the reason for extending him now because he had a "Great offseason and solid training camp (so far)."
Really?
They're still very unsure about his overall abilities.
Many teams don't rely on their QB as much as others. This is simple team philosophy, it's clear Rex Ryan prefers a ground and pound style offense and Taylor fits that. And with his completion rating and pass average, he played well.
As for what you just quoted, I'm sure they factored in what he did last year and how he's building off of it in training camp. The coaching staff likes him, and from what I just showed, there is good reason to like him. You don't get a 99.7 rating at QB and suck, this isn't the RB position. You did a lot of good, even if they didn't rely on the position heavily.
Will it backfire? Who knows, we'll see. This is a gamble due to how hard it is to find QBs. Better to get him signed now if you think he's the future and don't want him hitting the market in the future.
Fair enough. I just looked at his contract details. Not bad. The team has flexibility. I just don't like the player and the salary.Have you looked at the way the contract is broken down? If you did, you would realize this is a very good deal. The Bills get to look at Tyrod for this football season and decide if he is the future of the Bills or not. Being that the GM laid out a contract like this, they are assuming Tyrod is not the future of the Bills and can cut him after this season no harm, no foul. I know it's very confusing considering Cowboys fans are use to Jerry laying out 100% guaranteed contracts to his players but just because you read 5 year $90 million dollars, does not mean Tyrod is getting $90 million dollars.
