Had an interesting message at church. So before the Message Board Police freak out, this is not a Christian message.
And no disrespect to calling him "Tommy" for it just fit title with the others. I am referring to Coach Tom Landry.
Billy would be Billy Beane who was the former GM of the Oakland A's who had to somehow be creative to compete with the "Big Boys" in MLB. Oakland had one of the lowest payrolls set by his owner. In 2001, the Oakland A's were gutted with the big stars and had to replace them with far, far less payroll players. The movie "MoneyBall" was made starring Brad Pitt.
Mr Beane hired a Yale grad who majored in economics to change the face of MLB. The A's started off the 2001 season slowly and were in last place but Billy Beane trusted the process and the A's ranked up an American League record 20 game winning streak.
Coach Landry was legendary changing the NFL also, with the flex defense, the shot gun offense. NFL Films applied a phrase to Coach Landry's team that has stuck today. "America's Team". The Landry team notched two superbowls ('71/'77),
20 years of making the playoffs. And still is in the Top 5 NFL winningest NFL head coaches with 270.
Jimmy Johnson changed the NFL with his NFL Draft Value Chart. Jimmy changed the Dallas Cowboys with this new system and through the draft, Jimmy continued "America's Team" value with creating three Superbowls ('92/93/'95)
Since this, the Cowboys have become just another NFL team. Have no even seen a NFC Conference game since 1995.
The Cowboys were once innovators and now seem to just follows. And it has shown on the field and in the front office.
