(1:00 PM): Cavs' junior LB shifts course; now turning pro... Virginia junior LB Daryl Blacksock, who earlier had indicated that he'd be staying in school for the 2005 college season, has reportedly changed his mind and will be entering the upcoming draft.

Wierd. It was first reported that Ahmad Brooks would be coming out and Blackstock would be staying, now it's reversed in both cases.

I would much rather have Brooks come out.

For weeks now, there have been whispers that Blackstock's grades might make the decision for him...

We have a winner. Although, his 13-month (?) old son probably had a little bit to do with his decision, as well.

I'm surprised Brooks' grades weren't an issue, although I have no real way of knowing how he's doing in school. I know he didn't qualify coming out of high school, and I think he left the team for a short period of time right before the start of the 2004 season. It really shocked me to see him decide to stay at UVA. He seemed to me to be one of those "going to college just to get ready for the pros" types of kids. Of course I don't really know enough about him to make that evaluation. Maybe he is indeed interested in an education. He can certainly get a great one at Virginia.

Blackstock is a quality OLB/rush type prospect for a 3-4 team...if he works out well and we do switch to the 3-4 he'd be a solid addition...very good blitzer and pretty solid vs the run...struggles in coverage

I'd still rather have Brooks come out. He's better and even if we didn't get him he'd push a good player to us. I wouldn't draft Blackstock in the first round so he doesn't effect our first round picks.

I think blackstock would be a great pass rusher ala terrell suggs with slightly better coverage skills than suggs
