Blame Garrett, Wade, or Father Time?

For all the Garrett haters and Romo-apologists I wanna remind you it was Garrett's offense that led us to 13-3 and 11-5 back when Romo and company were healthy. We don't have a complete team like we did back then, we have spare parts. I also wanna remind everyone about Wade's entire draft devoted to special teams, man what a tard. Wade left the guy a team that quit with a bunch of broken down Vets and washouts..

When Garrett took over he told us we were in "Rebuilding Mode." Does anybody recall that? Beuhler? Look at the roster, we've replaced every single guy on the O-line since the meltdown against the Vikings in the playoffs and not one of those old broken down parts were in the league more than a season after. We've replaced all the RB's, and all but one WR with Millie hamstring limping around collecting $8 mill while doing nothing.. We've replaced all our DB's since those days and a whole lot of other positions. We've replaced somewhere between 85-90% of the team...

We have almost no pass rush and Ware is a shell of who he used to be much like Romo. And yet we are still in contention.. These backups fight for Garrett, we've only been blown out twice this year and it was to some good teams.. Romo gave us one last hurrah against Denver and then he fizzled out..

The real problem has been Jerry over paying vets and missing on a bunch of drafts..

"Going back to 2009, the Cowboys have drafted 41 players. Depending on your definition of success, 11 of those draftees are worth a bleep. This is not a coaching issue; these draftees are coming in, being cut and staying at home. No one else is signing these guys.

(While we’re at it — the Cowboys gave a 33-year-old QB coming off back surgery the second-most guaranteed money in NFL history. And Tony Romo just had his second back surgery. Bad backs never get right; they just get less wrong.)

In the ’70s and ’90s, the Cowboys defined success by Super Bowls, whether they got there or won. This (Romo) era of the team will be defined by the postseason, whether they got there or won a game."

I blame Jerry more than anyone but Garrett shoulders some blame as well. The guy has learned nothing during his tenure here and has wasted what talent he had to work with. Perhaps the drafts have been better but that doesn't matter when he continues to cost this team during the season.

He's like a tree stump out there.

If this team had a coach with even a remote grasp of game management this team would be in the playoffs already and tonight's game with the Eagles would be meaningless.

That's a reach considering all the broken parts we have...

Garrett has been in this organization as an assistant head coach or head coach since 2007. To absolve him of all blame on drafts from 2007-2013 is asinine. It's funny, when a draft looks good early on, Garrett's fingerprints are all over it. When a draft looks bad a few years later (2012), it was all Jerry's fault.

The reality is that Jerry does deserve the Lion's share of the responsibility, but it isn't mutually exclusive. Garrett, in accepting the job as assistant head coach and head coach, takes on responsibility, as well.

You nailed it here.

May as well close the thread now.

Oh rly? I thought scouts did all the leg work on who we draft and then Jerry over rules his staff when he sees fit...

Since none of us are there, you can spin it towards wherever your bias lies. My avatar is of the 2013 draft. Garrett was in the room, and there seemed to be a complete disconnect between HC and GM, but hey, Garrett accepted the job.

Blame them for what? A chance to win to go to the playoffs and undefeated in the division?

That was to help Romo and his weak arm....

Garrett's offense is super predictable and vanilla because Tony Romo has a supposedly weak arm?

No...no it isn't. It's predictable because Jason Garrett has the creativity of a tree stump. When Romo is moving receivers on his own at the line to take advantage of a favorable match up something is wrong with the play book.

How about last year when the offense was more effective with Romo calling the shots (hurry up) than with Garrett calling the plays?

The system is terrible and isn't built around the strengths of the players within it.

Or finish the year at 8-8. Again.

If they win tonight arguing for Garrett's dismissal would be unwise but if they lose it should be a real possibility. No more excuses. No more scapegoats.

So then Garrett would be the Scapegoat? lol

Im probably one of the more optimistic guys but Im aware that the odds of Dallas winning with all those key players missing arent great. I have no problems with Garrett staying on another year (atleast) but Im not going to be one to cry about a 8-8 record. Id much rather be 16-0 but with the way things have developed this year it could be much worse. Lol I remember the Texan fans constant complaining about those 8-8 years.... Now, those were to good ole days.

Exactly right.

But I fear that won't stop plenty of people from trying to make those excuses.

Win and you can claim some sort of progress.

If you don't, you can't.

End of story.

I just want to see some sort of improvement. Something that shows this team is heading in the right direction even if the main goal might be another year or two away.

I know where the buck truly stops but the man isn't going anywhere. Best thing this team can do is bring in a coach that can be the yin to his yang. If it's Garrett than he needs to show me something. Tonight is the night. It may not be fair due to the injuries but this is the NFL and proof is in results not what might have been.

Like I said, Im more of the "glass is half full" type so I do look to improvements that have been made. There is no arguing (atleast IMO) that Dallas has fixed some issues that have decimated this team in the past. Primarily the O-Line. The terrible, terrible defense is somewhat new and cant be denied that the injuries have plagued the team on that side of the ball. Maybe a better coach couldve found a way to play into whatever the strengths of these street guys are. Obviously the clock management is atrocious at key moments... That has JG prints on those losses more than anyone else, really.

As far as the yang to JJ yin... Yin will get you in the unemployment line real quick when working for Jerry.

Definitely an odd combo if true.

I always thought:
1. hate Garrett, love Romo
2. hate both
3. love both

I want to meet someone who loves all three(including Jerry the GM)!
