report is he injured the same foot again. we were patient letting him recover and be able to play. granted his play was sub-par in some games. but now injured again, in december, which means he is not available until probably around same time next year... so what do cowboys do? if they cut him, his dead cap is 36M...can't do that being 34M over the cap at this point. keeping him and not playing him costs 1.3M and a cap hit of 5.8M which is already accounted for. which would be palatable just to keep him on the team for one year at least.

the problem is if he doesn't recover and is not the same player. same injury, same foot, twice.... his salary is 12M in 27 and dead cap is 30M.

given this, the CB now is a need position and if the plan was to cut Diggs who got a concussion falling off while sitting on a step stool, we may not be able to absorb his cap hit and have two vacant CB spots.

and here is yet another player we signed and got injured ala Diggs. seemingly the CB gets hit hard. we have three CBs who have had major injuries.

Doesn't the injury prevent him from being cut anyway? He's on the team next year anywhere. Maybe they can do an injury settlement. I'm not sure the extent of his injury or what his contract looks like.

You make a strong case for positional need here.

Then to add in a couple starting caliber LBs, an edge and a safety for the defense...

And then add it to that continuing left tackle problem to deal with on the offense.

Shaping up to be another interesting offseason.

smh

The problem is his 2026 salary is guaranteed otherwise the rest of his contract is tolerable for a June 1 cut. The other problem is if the Cowboys put him on IR the Cowboys cannot cut him until he is medically cleared to play. I am not sure if that still applies after the current season expires or not.

He can easily be cut after next year. But expensive to cut him now. His deal is fairly front loaded and not a lot of backend cap hits

Another off season where to fill all your needs ypu would need to fill a few in FA. You are likely to fill 2 of those in the draft assuming you draft well. Maybe 3 if you get really lucky
