Dean Blandino Verified account ‏@DeanBlandino
In #SEAvsDAL one angle looked like ball was breaking plane. Other looked short. Call on field was TD. Has to be clear and obvious to change.

This does not seem to match up with the rules of replay: if one angle is definitive, then that trumps the ones that are not. If we are reviewing a fumble, and only one angle shows a fumble, but the others do not — it’s a fumble as long as that one angle has incontrovertible evidence. In this case there is a clear angle showing the ball outside of the end zone. There is no justification to leave the ruling as “stands.”.....It is one thing for there to be a lack of consistency between referees and crews, but when there are two people making the decision in New York — Blandino and senior supervisor Al Riveron — it is unusual to have this degree of inconsistency

That's just Dean!

Even the announcers saw the same thing we did. When Periara cited the Butt Rule it sealed the evidence that he was down. Blandino counts on weasel words, and CYA to justify his rulings.

Blandino needs to be fired. The guy was never an official. At least Pereira was, as far as I know.

Clear and obvious like the Dez catch ruled a TD on the field. Blandino is a tool

Agree, he's worthless in terms of simplification and consistency. Time for the NFL to do online booth review based on fans majority rules input. If they can do this on some contest shows the technology exists.... At least that gives a semblance of a better chance on rulings....:):)

What other angle does he even need to look at? You have a shot looking straight down the goal line with both the guys butt touching the ground and the ball clearly short of the goal line.

This camera angle is pretty much in the wheelhouse for a definitive call.

The fact that fans actually know who Blandino is tells you just how bad the officiating has become.

Very good point...as if we needed that point to know how bad he is. But, yes, when the VP of Officiating is a weekly topic of discussion, something's wrong. Too bad the league doesn't get this. It would be nice if the league front office held themselves to anything close to the same standard that they hold players and coaches to...but that will not happen. The commish and his fellow cronies are a bunch of hypocrites.

Is he basically stating all camera angles must be clear?

Yes, but it only takes one to be clear, as in a fumble. Above is all the evidence that you need to overturn, full stop. His body of work is nothing more than a series of lies and contradictions of previous points.

Obligatory opinion that Blandino is an idiot. But this play didn't grind my gears very much. Mostly because I thought it was very very likely they got the touchdown there anyway.

The botched time out fiasco on the other end that might have cost us the game winning points is another story. Gears, ground.

True, but we can't assume Dallas would have scored a TD anyway........the way the offense was playing so conservative and pathetic. I don't think it was likely they would have scored a TD anyway. That is sad-----having to choose between Weeden and Cassel as your bus driver, when they obviously couldn't even handle a rickshaw without driving it into a ditch.

Yeah, that much is very true. Still, that call was a lot more frustrating at the time.
