Bleacher Report comes up with their projected 50 Rookie cuts in Training Camp.

Two Cowboys on the list. One not so surprising, one very surprising, to me.
Caleb McSurdy and ------------Danny Coale.

The report said Ogletree and Harris were more experienced and more dynamic than Danny--?????

You might want to take a look at the article and see if you think the Boys might be interested in the projected cuts. It might only take one or two players to make a major difference. Not sure if those one or two players are on this list.

Based on what, a WAG? No link, so I didn't read the story. As to whether Coale and/or McSurdy might be cut, I'll toss my 2-cents in:

Coale - I highly doubt he will be cut. Don't think the 'Boys would even be able to sneak him onto the PS, if that becomes a consideration. Think he'll make the 53. He's got the goods, IMO.

McSurdy - I think he makes the 53-man roster, also. Worst case scenario, IMO, he may be cut to slide him onto the PS. Don't believe he will be a casualty of lack of talent, smarts or effort.

*Opinions made assuming health/injury concerns aren't a problem for either player through TC and the preseason games.

Assuming he comes back from the broken foot and stays healthy through training camp, I don't think Coale's getting cut simply because he's so versatile. He can return punts, play gunner on the punt team, and even punt.

His position drills at the combine were among the best as far as route running and hands, so he's definitely got the ability to succeed. He'll have to prove it on the field, but I like his chances.

As for numbers at the position, keep in mind that Buehler's departure will give us a roster spot for an additional position player this year. WR was one spot we went relatively light (5) in 2011. There might be as many as four open spots at that position should we decide to keep 6 with Bryant and Austin the only locks.

Right now, nobody knows anything about Coale except from what he did in college.

But unless a guy is a real bust, the team usually tries hard to give their draft picks at least some sort of shot.
There's plenty of comp for those 3-4 "open" WR positons with about 7 guys vying for them.
If they keep 6, that would help him for sure.

Once camp begins, for all we know, he could be great.

Barring a rash of injuries, I don't see McSurdy making the team.

There is a lot of competition for the WR position this year. Coale will have to shine or he won't make it.

Three players at quick glance that might have some interest off this list:

1. Cyrus Gray--RB, Rusher, Receiver, kick returner, pass blocker,RKG
1045 yds, 12 tds--seems to be good in several areas, not sure if he's real good at any.

2. Drake Dunsmore--TE/FB 2011 45 recps/522,yds/6tds,14 tds in career, All big 10, second leading rusher on team, athletic but under sized. 6'2" 241 lbs.

3.Kevin Beachum OG, SMU, 6'3" 303, 2x all C_USA Competing against Decastro for a spot, He may be real good but not elite like Decastro.

Keep in mind these are projected and may not actually happen, or the players get stuck on PS.

If the Cowboys cut Danny Coale he'll be claimed by another team before they have the chance to sign him to hte practice squad. If they want to keep him but not tie up a roster spot they can sign him to the roster, then put him on the PUP or Injured Reserve list, and not have him count against the final roster while still holding his rights.

They like Danny Coale's potential too much to just cut him.

don't ever believe anything your read on Bleacher report as true report. its done by fans, such as yourself or others just like this message board. none of them any affiliation to inside sources, or any magazine or organization. most of them have no formal training in football and are just fans.....

the site admins encourage the writers to be controversial to generate interest and the writers get paid a little, by how popular (hits) their articles are.

If they can contribute on special teams they make the roster. Along with Matt Johnson, I think they have core special teams players right there.

I doubt Gray gets cut, he was a steal at that spot and was the original target by the Cowboys before they picked Hanna.

Not every aspect for sure, but read different pieces from different writers and you can tell who knows what.

That's a definite. There is one writer there that I can't remember the name right now...but he is just some schmo sitting on his couch talking out of his rear. It's pretty obvious however.

I don't know why people love ESPN so much. Most of the shows are terrible. Better off watching you local news or local sports channels for your best info. I don't know all of the guys at ESPN, but I can vouche for guys like Jay Bilas, Barry Melrose, and Peter Gammons, they are true sports junkies and indeed expert insiders.
