We just might be looking for a backup for Mr. Romo.

So now comes word from Tampa Bay . . . .

Chris Simms is expected to make a full recovery. He might not, however, take another snap for the Bucs. Out for season while on injured reserve, Simms is a free agent after the season.

OK, Simms doesn't want to be a backup. even for America's Team. But Jerra does not know what NO means.

Bet he'd go after Simms, heartthrob of many UT fans. I say that Jerra would bite because Jerra has never been big on logic.

There's no way this happens -- especially if Romo is firmly entrenched as the starter at the end of the year. He'll go somewhere where he'll be guaranteed the starting job. Hell, he'll probably be be back in TB -- I don't see them staying with that kid they have now.

I say Draft a QB in the 3rd rd or sumthing...

I still thin we take a QB in the first, but as Romo keeps on playing, then sense of urgency is waining. IF we beat Indy, I would consider waiting until the second or third. :D

I don't know that Simms can find a place he is guaranteed a starting job - he isn't that good. However I do agree that he won't come to Dallas - he wants to know that he is at least in the running for the starting job.

Besides, assuming Romo continues to play well I doubt we will want to make it appear that we are bringing in competition. I suspect we will want Romo to come in knowing he is "the man".

I believe the best approach is to bring in a veteran backup (either an older former starter or a proven No. 2 man) as insurance and draft a youngster to develop in the mid rounds.

Simms isn't going to sign in Dallas. His decision not to sign a long term deal earlier this year was based on his confidence that he is a bona fide starter, and would be putting up the numbers this year to prove it.

The injury was unfortunate, and will most likely end up hurting him financially, but I think the last thing he will want to do is sign with a team that has a starter as young and effective as Romo. A team that won't be looking for a QB competition in camp next year, but a blessed relief from uncertainty, and a chance to develop young skills players in tandem with a young starter.

Maybe Jerry still has some 'pedigree' notion that Romo leaves unfulfilled, but judging by the way Romo is now chiding JJ to get on the bus, I doubt it.

Jones is eating out of Romo's hand, and Bill, if he's here next year, won't be looking for QB competition either, just another reliable vet to back TR up.

And if Bill is still here, Phil supposedly won't let his kid suffer the same indignities he once did. (Tho I do think the kid's treatment at Gruden's hands made Phil appreciate at least 'love' goes with 'tough' with Tuna..)

I do think Dallas will look at getting a vet backup next year to replace Bledsoe who I expect will retire. I don't think it will be Simms. I would also think Dallas will be in the market to get a QB in this upcoming draft at least some where in day 2

Yep, I say he retires also. b/c the team that signs him will need the army, airforce and a good OL to protect him..:D

Just say no to Chris Simms. Please, God, NO. Athleticaly, he is everything an NFL team would want at quarterback. Mentally, he doesn't have it, and never will.

Mark Brunell should be available.

That would be ironic, but frankly I would be happy as hell with Brunnell as a backup.

My guess is that Brunnell, like Bledsoe, will only want to play if he at least is given a real chance to start, and that wouldn't be the case here.

I doubt Simms comes to Dallas, unless Romo is not working out by year's end. I am not totally convienced that Bledsoe leaves either.. I think it is very possible... but not 100% right now. He may realize that he will not be a starter in this league anymore and may decide to stick around for the last year of his contract,, esp if Bill stays. .. However.. just off the top of my head,, some names that come to mind that might be on the market, next year.. Jake Plummer, Trent Green, Leftwich, Bledsoe, Brunnell, Brooks, Simms,
Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins and I am sure there will be more.

Hell bring back vinny.

Hell, I'd certainly take Drew B. as a backup, but no way dude accepts that role. He'll ask for his release and we'll give it to him. I think his contract is a 3 year deal that's really structed to be a 2 yearer.

Of the guys on that list, I would say all but Warner and maybe Collins will really push to be the starter somewhere. I would love to have someone like Trent Green, but he's still got starting QB skills.
