I think there is way to much being made of him holding onto the ball.

I like the idea of him hanging in there and standing tall until a play can develop and taking a hit if necessary.

A lot of QB's get happy feet and dont let a play develop.

There might be some negative plays and a sack here and there but think of the plays he will make if he just doesn't throw the ball away to soon.

I actually enjoyed a QB in Dallas for the first time since Aikman and teams now know if the gang up on the run Bledsoe will beat them with his arm.

Noooooooooooooooo, I can't stand him patting on that ball. Watch Brees play just in case you missed it. It's 1,2,3 throw or 1,2,3,4,5 throw it out of bounce.

He did throw very accurately. When he has time, he did pick the defense part. But, still.....get rid of the rock on time. SD sacked him 4 times and this is not even counting all the other times that it got negated by penalties and hits. SD was one of the worse team in sacks....worse then we were....so what does that say when they were able to get to him with regularity. Yes, some were faults of OL and blitz pick up...but some got to fall to Drew.

I would rather the guy try to make a play than just heave the ball out of bounds. Hes willing to take the hit to make things happen thats ok with me.
Breeze gets it of quick and look where it got him yesterday. We didnt have an enormous pass rush either. :)

Drew has the theory No Guts No Glory. Sometimes its better to take a sack then to threw a interception.

His only mistake, in my opinion, is that he doesn't really move around in the pocket while standing back there, adapting as his pocket moves. That's what Tom Brady does such a great job of. He'll stand back there forever, but he moves a little in doing so. But even so, it hasn't seem to be a big enough concern to date to make me complain too much. I'd rather him stand back there and hold onto the ball too long than throw a stupid pass down the middle of the field like all our past quarterbacks did. And, hey, he made several nice throws to open guys as a direct result of being willing to hang in the pocket.

I woudl so rather him sit back and take a sack then revert to vinny of 2004 forcing the ball into tight coverage and get it picked off, or just plain throw th ball to bright orange jerseys because ..........you get the point

i think you guys are misinterpreting what is happening here. Drew played well yesterday but that is because the ol gave him time. Drew does hold onto the ball wayyyyy too long and this is going to hurt us against good defensive teams. Drew has led the league the past 3 years in getting scked and he will lead the league once again. That is not a good stat... he got bailed out a few times because of roughing the passer or stupid penalties by jammer. bottom line is he nees to get rid of the ball.

I didnt see a whole lotta plays where he had time. On one play Rivera was thrown about into him. This O line will get better but I would still rather have a QB trying to make some thing happen than not.
I bet our WRs are glad he doesnt give up on plays.

He does hold it way too long... what's more damaging-- a sack or just throw the ball out of bounds? I'll take the incomplete every time. The sack has a great potential to lead to fumbles. If give up 4 sacks against SD how many will we give up against Philly? And it's pretty darn tough to win when you give up a half-dozen sacks (or more) in a game.

I share your view. I wrote an article on the game and had this to say about his pocket presence, or lack thereof:

One thing I would have liked to see Bledsoe do more often was step up into the pocket. Pettiti was doing great in his pass protection all day, but he’s only so quick, and Jacques Cesaire would often find his way around the edge. The offensive line was creating a sizeable pocket for most of the game, but Bledsoe would take these ridiculous 5 to 7-step drops and sit down for a sack. If the pass isn’t there, fine, but don’t tell me you couldn’t complete a pass when you have 5+ seconds and you refuse to step up into a perfectly good pocket.

In my notes from this game, I wrote in big, bold caps "STEP UP"... two of Bledsoe's sacks could have been avoided if he just took two steps forward.

I bet you if Brees was on our team and Bledsoe on SD, we would have sacked Bledsoe 5-6 times and caused a few INTs and Brees would have throw for 3 TD with 75 % comp and take fewer sacks. I point is that Brees is a superior QB to Bledsoe.

Check out some of his passes! He would stay inside...and on a few passes while he was almost hit...he hit the target!

Now then...not to start a war! Fools....

But, when Bledsoe lost that snap fumble...that one announcer said that, that "looked more like a Quincy Carter play..."

I thought to myself...***!! Who cares...and that was wrong...! QC is doing his thing...who knows...

That is the one bad thing I heard... :(

Brees isnt a Cowboy and he lost yesterday. After one game that Bledsoe won, you are saying Breese is superior? Lets see how a few more games go.
Woulda coulda shouldas. :lmao:

All I heard about was how Bledsoe was a statue. He was sacked four times. I'll be willing to bet Vick gets sacked at least four times tonight. He ususally does get sacked a lot. But, I will take four sacks if we keep getting production like this from the QB position. And, SD is no slouch of a defense.

Great game Drew.
