I'm a fan of blitzing I love it, I dream of it, nothing makes me happier than to wake up and thinking of us blitzing! With that said I often see us telegraph where the blitz is coming from, instead of being more covert about it. Do you think Quinn will better disguise our blitzes so we're more effective???

Also I've seen us blitz, get near the qb and either overrun the blitz, causing us to miss the offensive player. This leads to missed tackles/sacks and me having grey hair!!!

This has to be a point of emphasis! Your thoughts???!!!!

I think we will blitz some I do not see him blitzing a lot. Dallas will be playing a lot of cover 3 kind of hard to blitz when you are in zone coverage. But I do think we will see some blitzing, how much will depend a lot of how effective we are. Blitz are great when you are getting to the QB but when offense can pick up the blitz you set yourself up for big plays down field.

I don't mind the blitz, but not a lot. I can't recall how much Quinn's defenses blitzed in Seattle or Atlanta, but I am sure some on here know that, and can answer it.
Until our LB's and DB's prove they can cover long enough for the blitz to get to the QB, then I prefer they use it sparingly and well timed.

I am sure we will not see a lot of it in PS games as not to tip how this defense really looks. Then BOOM, hit Tom Boy with it in TB.

Blitz, blitz, blitz as a practice telegraphs it is coming. There is nothing covert about it. The first thing DQ will do to disguise our blitz is to not "blitz, blitz, blitz".

However a consistent pass rush is manufactured from this front 7 will determine defensive success.

Flip that and apply the same principle to this offensive line's ability to protect and open holes.

Some believe in the combo of this HC/ DC/OC's ability to coach up the necessary line of scrimmage dominance on both sides required to win a trophy.

I am highly skeptical.

As always, my opinion.

its great when it works, but if you are good at it and you blitz, and it gets picked up, then expect to give up some big plays....it goes hand in hand..... but if you are a good blitzing team, you will have more success than not....

An increase in well disguised blitz' should, I think will, take place under Quinn. But they have to be sporadic to keep them effective.

Reminds of the scene in the movie Remember the Titans when the Titans were getting hosed by the refs. The defensive coach called his defense over and told that the opponent crosses the line again he will take every single one of them out of the game. Told them to blitz all night and he wanted them to remember the night they played the Titans.

Blitzes are fine, and necessary on occasion.

But with a quick throwing offense, or quick throwing quarterback, whatever position the blitzer came from is left wide open and a pass that would have only gone as far as the throw was is now a 20-plus yard gain. Most of the teams that have the best pass rush can do it with their front 4 most of the time.

Blitzes are best used judiciously...

Loved that movie scene. :)

My 2 favorite DCs were Jim Johnson with Philly and Spagnuolo with the Giants.

great DL with LBs and DBs who blitzed insanely and overwhelmed teams. They couldn’t be stopped.

Romo always struggled unless he had a good OL

Heavy blitzing teams lose. A lot.

Thanks for the discussion point.

I like having the in-between.
1) Knowing When to Blitz, .
2) .and knowing HOW to Blitz.
3) having the player with knack to blitz

- Not every coach knows that and does that.
- Not every player knows how to blitz.

- and I don’t believe in leaving your defense out on a open field and island that vulnerable when i don;t have to. That’s Rob Ryan and Mike Nolan style.
They want to be exotic, unpredictable and aggressive but in doing so, they only force confusion and disarray.

As mentioned, I’m more a fan of the coaches that know ..How to Blitz – know how to best Design a blitzing scheme.
than just blitzing often bodies and numbers for the sake of blitzing, just sending a many number of people in but end up getting stonewalled blocked and not getting to that QB,
who then now has less defenders in pass game, more space, passing lanes and alley-ways to survey his moving targets and ample enuff’ time hit them for big plays.

- Some teams have to resort to blitzing a lot because their standard rushers upfront are ineffective and usless producing a generated pass rush.

- Dunno if some recall the late Philly DC Jimmie Johnson, but he was one that was so exotic and brilliant in how he’d design and send the blitz, CBs from the outside, both LB/safety in
same gap as to hide a blitzer before blockers detected a 2nd blocker,
Overload from two three different areas, stunts and twists among DL while Blitzers ran behind on a delay middle blitz as to occupy initial blockers while those delay blitzers had a clear path to the QB.

"Hello, Mr. Brady. My name is Micah Parsons. I'm going to be on you arse all day, pal. It's an honor to pick up a future HOFer off the turf. I look to do this five more times today."

"By the way, you fumbled. We'll kick it back to you after we score."

Not a fan of a lot of blitzing most QB’s
But I will say if a guy is picking your secondary apart you have little to lose
Until last year we’ve had success blitzing but not a lot of blitzing
Being effective when you do seems more important than just doing it a lot
I don’t really like just blitzing a LB up the middle so much but bring guys off the edge
