I'm a fan of blitzing I love it, I dream of it, nothing makes me happier than to wake up and thinking of us blitzing! With that said I often see us telegraph where the blitz is coming from, instead of being more covert about it. Do you think Quinn will better disguise our blitzes so we're more effective???
Also I've seen us blitz, get near the qb and either overrun the blitz, causing us to miss the offensive player. This leads to missed tackles/sacks and me having grey hair!!!
This has to be a point of emphasis! Your thoughts???!!!!
Thanks for the discussion point.
I like having the in-between.
1) Knowing
When to Blitz, .
2) .and knowing
HOW to Blitz.
3) having the player with knack to blitz
- Not every coach knows that and does that.
- Not every player knows how to blitz.
- and I don’t believe in leaving your defense out on a open field and island that vulnerable when i don;t have to. That’s Rob Ryan and Mike Nolan style.
They want to be exotic, unpredictable and aggressive but in doing so, they only force confusion and disarray.
As mentioned, I’m more a fan of the coaches that know ..How to Blitz – know how to best Design a blitzing scheme.
than just blitzing often bodies and numbers for the sake of blitzing, just sending a many number of people in but end up getting stonewalled blocked and not getting to that QB,
who then now has less defenders in pass game, more space, passing lanes and alley-ways to survey his moving targets and ample enuff’ time hit them for big plays.
- Some teams have to resort to blitzing a lot because their standard rushers upfront are ineffective and usless producing a generated pass rush.
- Dunno if some recall the late Philly DC Jimmie Johnson, but he was one that was so exotic and brilliant in how he’d design and send the blitz, CBs from the outside, both LB/safety in
same gap as to hide a blitzer before blockers detected a 2nd blocker,
Overload from two three different areas, stunts and twists among DL while Blitzers ran behind on a delay middle blitz as to occupy initial blockers while those delay blitzers had a clear path to the QB.
