Yes, helmet to helmet contact forced the call to be made a "blindside" hit. Part of the new rule changes to protect all players from helmet-to-helmet hits in order to protect from CTE setting in players' brains.

I don’t think it had anything to do w helmet to helmet. That’s not the rule. It does have to do with safety but I don’t believe it’s helmet to helmet.

Nah, if you are calling that helmet to helmet contact then you can call a flag on literally any play for helmet to helmet. It was just a bad call.

It was half the distance, so it turned out to be an 11-yard penalty. But yes, you are correct.

if Kearse is running free off a blitz you pick him up regardless if hes looking or not

you cant shove him in the ground at that point because thats a block in the back

if the man is a threat to make a play you remove that threat

horrible call but then again the nfl has horrible rules that make no sense

They've found themselves trying to pretend to care about players well being and trying to protect their brand. Its resulted in some very silly *** officiating. Almost can't even blame the refs at this point for all the rules.

And as we all lament that call, Dak was hit in the facemask and visor by the paw of a defensive lineman as he was in the throwing motion. This resulted in a pick.

No flag. No penalty.

And then the flood gates opened on this site in the game day thread blaming Dak, when he could not see his receiver at the release of the ball, could not step into the pass, and the refs clearly missed a routine call that is made every time a QB's facemask and visor are even touched, and not just swatted like we saw.

There was a thread that claimed this is sports entertainment and not truly a contest where the battle and win are to the better team.

I mulled that over. But I think I am in more agreement as each game passes this is not about the combat, but the bling and glitz.

And somewhere in the recesses of the stadium, owners ringing cash registers.

He probably could’ve blocked him without putting the crown of his helmet in kwarse’s ear hole. That’s what drew the flag and it’s the league emphasizing keeping your head up. Would I like it if it was called against us? No but I’ve also had to suck up a bunch of terrible calls so I’ll take it.

i’m not lamenting it, i was trying to clarify what they meant to call. it was a penalty for sure in my mind. i don’t think the refs saw dak get hit in the face

Pretend is correct

you cant say you care about health and add an extra week of games and expand the playoffs these players can barely get through 16 games but thats another discussion

I didn't like the call but by the letter of the rule, it was a correct call. If the guy that came down behind the line would have been set when the play started and he blocked him the exact same way, there would not have been a penality. But since he came across the formation and was moving, he can't hit any player that is parallel or moving toward his own goaline, that is what made it a blindside block.

“a player initiates a block in which he is moving toward or parallel to his own end line and makes forcible contact to his opponent with his helmet, forearm, or shoulder.”

I guess by the letter of the law he could have drop kicked him and it would have been good
