(Yeah, I'm bored and sick and tired of talking about the on again/off again Pacman deal!)
Thought of a huge trade scenario that seemed to make a lot of sense (to me anyway!) and wanted to stir the pot by presenting it to the masses. It takes several factors for granted, but factors which have been discussed and have a chance of happening. Here's the deal, give me your opinions:
1) If the Cowboys do trade for Pacman Jones
2) If they have an agreement for Detroit WR Roy Williams for the #28 pick
3) If Darren McFadden falls beyond Oakland at #4
If you were GM, would you:
Trade this year's 1st rounder (#22) plus next year's first rounder to draft McFadden?
It might take a bit more than that to get it done, but I think by investing two #1's you'd be close. It might cost this year's 2nd rounder as well. A 'chart guy' could probably give us better numbers.
These deals would cost three #1 picks, possibly this year's 2nd rounder, (and whatever Pacman's eventual cost), but would net the Cowboys a Top 10 receiver, a Top 20 cornerback and Top 5 return man, and arguably this year's best player in the draft.
Cap wise, you would pay now - given McFadden's deal and Roy Williams' contract extension, but you wouldn't have the cost of a #11 draft choice in 2009.
You could then use your 2008 3rd rounder on a cornerback in case Pacman gets into trouble again.
It would probably take some careful cap management, but I think it would definitely make the Cowboys the team to beat in 2008 - and beyond.
And before anyone mentions it, I know this deal has little chance of happening, but I figured it might generate some good conversation if nothing else.
Thoughts?
