Blockbuster Trade Scenario

(Yeah, I'm bored and sick and tired of talking about the on again/off again Pacman deal!)

Thought of a huge trade scenario that seemed to make a lot of sense (to me anyway!) and wanted to stir the pot by presenting it to the masses. It takes several factors for granted, but factors which have been discussed and have a chance of happening. Here's the deal, give me your opinions:

1) If the Cowboys do trade for Pacman Jones

2) If they have an agreement for Detroit WR Roy Williams for the #28 pick

3) If Darren McFadden falls beyond Oakland at #4

If you were GM, would you:

Trade this year's 1st rounder (#22) plus next year's first rounder to draft McFadden?

It might take a bit more than that to get it done, but I think by investing two #1's you'd be close. It might cost this year's 2nd rounder as well. A 'chart guy' could probably give us better numbers.

These deals would cost three #1 picks, possibly this year's 2nd rounder, (and whatever Pacman's eventual cost), but would net the Cowboys a Top 10 receiver, a Top 20 cornerback and Top 5 return man, and arguably this year's best player in the draft.

Cap wise, you would pay now - given McFadden's deal and Roy Williams' contract extension, but you wouldn't have the cost of a #11 draft choice in 2009.

You could then use your 2008 3rd rounder on a cornerback in case Pacman gets into trouble again.

It would probably take some careful cap management, but I think it would definitely make the Cowboys the team to beat in 2008 - and beyond.

And before anyone mentions it, I know this deal has little chance of happening, but I figured it might generate some good conversation if nothing else.

Thoughts?

It all sounds marvelous, stash, but it really hampers the negotiations and cap room with Ware and Newman next season. I'll pass.

I wouldn't give up next year's No. 1. No way. That's Danny Snyder territory right there. You never know what's going to happen in a year, especially not with that first rounder. You never give away your best bargaining chip before you step to the table. And you certainly can't do it out of some kind of strange loyalty because a really good RB came out of your alma mater.

He won't have a better rookie year than AP. If we traded those two first round picks for DMac and got Roy Williams with the No. 28, I'd be 1 million times more excited for the Williams acquisition.

If we had no running back at all, then I'd consider that trade. With MBIII? Nah. Take somebody like Rice or Slaton in the later rounds.

Yes, in a heartbeat.

You tell me I can add McFadden, Williams, and Jones you bet. I would jump all over that like a fat kid on cake.

I would not. I am just not as convinced as most that McFadden will be the can't miss player many believe him to be.

Same here. I've been hopeing that somehow we can manage to add A. Jones, R. Williams and McFadden to last years pro bowlers. We would be a scary team.

However, I think it would take more than this year's #22 and next year's #1 to get up around pick 6, 7, 8, or 9.

If we manage to add Jones, Williams, McFadden and a second round DB... I'll be on cloud 9.

Of course, I'd love Jones, Williams, Jenkins (at #22) and a RB (Rice, K Smith, C. Johnson, J Charles, etc.) in the second, too.

Basically, we're in a good spot where we can make an already good team significantly better.

Or..

"Make like a tree and get the hell out of here?"

I don't agree with tossing multiple #1 picks for a player that is yet to play a down in the NFL.

It's likely you're fouling up your cap as well in the long term. If you don't get the trophy that season or next, people are going to bust a gut laughing at the desperation of the move. It sounds almost like a Commanders strategy.

I know, I know, "but if...". My sig stays like that for a reason.

Good luck with it though.

Yeah, on paper it would, but come mid season and beyond the exact same thing that has been happening would happen. This team does have some holes to fill but the biggest hole is that lack of heart, discipline, killer instinct and drive. Until this is fixed teams, like the Giants, who really really want to win the football game will...

Naw, it would have to be pie. I don't like cake. Except two kinds. German chocolate and carrot cake. The rest I pretty much hate. Not a big fan of sugar to be quite truthful. Salty stuff is my poison.

I agree. I will take a good homemade pie over any kind of cake. Although my favorite snack is beef jerky.:D

I've actually played that exact scenario out in my head several times. And I think its a distinct possibility.

You get RW here, Pacman (which is already very likely) and trade this years 1 and next years 1 for Dmac. Then get a CB in the 2nd round and I'd have to take valium from today until opening weekend I'd be so damn siked.

If Dmac gets past the raiders, it could very well happen.

2 first round picks is all it would take to get mcfadden if he gets past the raiders, despite what some people on here believe

A first next year is equivalent to a second this year. If it only took a first and a secong to trade up to 6 to get Mcfadden you have to do it. thats a fabulous deal.
