Again, take the time to do the research and you will find that the best running teams and offenses in the league find a way to carry and employ the fullback position. Look specifically at the top backs in the league like Derrick Henry or Dalvin Cook and you will find fullbacks leading the way. San Francisco's running game? Yep - fullback. Baltimore's? You bet! How about the Chiefs! Yep, they have one too.

Those teams can not only employ a successful run game, they can rely on it. If a team wants to be strong in all aspects of offense, a fullback is a key component.

TB seems fine with Ron Jones & Fournette and Brady & Gronk . KC same . I just want my most prolific players on Sunday .

Take a look at the better running backs and top running games in the league and they're still employing a fullback. To be a complete offense, I think a team needs a fullback, if for no other reason that in short yardage and goal line situations.
Right, maybe having a FB will increase the red zone conversion rate.

I think Mike would like to have a fullback on the team... He pretty much said so in camp. Ralston just probably isn't good enough to be that guy. But I would get next year we find one.

If he “ ain’t good enough “ then yeah give me an extra DB or linemen on either side of the ball come Sunday for injury or rotational purposes and for short yardage go 2 TE or play action but the game is evolving . Ralston had plenty of reps pre season to make an impression .

Who can't use a bully like this?

I have met Lorenzo at a track meet in Lemoore, worked with his uncle Willie who ran track with Tommie Smith, Lorenzo out of Lemoore HS played at Fresno State.

Lo Neal was maybe the best FB of the modern era. He's also one of the truly good people in sports. He's also great on the radio out there in the Bay Area. I used to listen to the show religiously during my commute when I lived out there. I also had the pleasure of meeting him a time or two. He was such a gracious guy. WHen I told him I was moving out of state and was going to be driving from the Bay to Texas he invited me to stop by his place in Lemoore and hang. I almost took him up on it. My oldest brother was stationed at Lemoore NAS in the early 90's. During that time his two sons (my nephews) both played football and ran track at Lemoore High School. They missed playing with him by about three years. I think he graduated in 1990 and they were there from '93 to '95. Speaking of Fresno State one my wife's nephews was a star there under Pat Dye.. his name is Nick Burley.. I think he graduated from there in '98 or '99? He never made a roster but spent 5 years bouncing around on the Rams and Titans practice squads...

Heard of Nick Burley.

Lorenzo's dad is a preacher as ya know, almost went with Willie once to a service, ah....almost. That track in Lemoore the best in the valley.

As you also know Lorenzo was a stud wrestler. There was a video of him over in Japan (one of those games) taking on a Sumo wrestler, yep, took him out (obviously a lesser light).

Love to have Neal on the Cowboys, hell, three backs set. Ok ok getting carried away.

It's ancient for every team but there still are a handful of teams that still use one quite a bit. Ravens, Pats, Browns 49ers, Pitt, Vikings and a few others have some decent FBs that get more than a few snaps per game.

Since our base is 11, we don't really have a lot of snaps for a 21/20 formation. Ralston is on the PS, and with Sprinkle already at 2 PS callups he'll have to be assigned to the 53 to be called up again
All but 1 are playoff teams, and NE has won how many Super Bowls...HINT, HINT, and BIG FREAKING HINT!!!!!!!!!!!!

NFL coaches can count. FB, TE, 5 OL equal how many in a box? Add another TE/HB and you have how many blockers in the box? You throw to score, run to win, and defense wins championships.

I know Zeke makes a ton of $$ and is paid for other skills then blocking and Pollard never met a block he liked but the days of the plowing blocking FB in this NFL seems ancient .

I heard people wanting Ralston to make the cut but other then ST duties where does Kellen Moore have use for this position . Sorry Moose .
@ Boise State....the FB position was vital...got a feeling Kellen is stashing a huge part of his playbook until he can get the right guy into place.

Zeke is too good of a blocker in the passing game to even think about having a FB on the field. The O-line is too good at blocking in the running game to need a blocking FB on the field. In short, the thread title is correct... a blocking FB need not apply.

Did you not see Blake Jarwin's blocking effort in the Redzone against Tampa. There's a role for a blocking fullback if they want to go that way. It appears they don't.

Jarwin has put forth better blocking effort than he did in that red zone play in Tampa. It's one play and by no means what he does on a normal basis when given a blocking assignment. Many of you like to pretend otherwise and overreact. We have no need for a blocking FB.

That’s on coaching and the player sure. So carry a FB in the hopes that in the red zone he will get you in the end zone. Instead of Jarwin let’s say Schultz was on the play as the blocking TE ? If Jarwin is that deficient in that area don’t have him involved , simple.

Could be. Where’s Ralston who a lot of posters were clamoring make the 53 ? Obviously against the types of teams they played in the first 2 weeks they felt that a high octane gas on offense was more important . I’m not up on the PS is he part of that group ?

What I would like to see is some stats in relation to goal line situations. This league has moved to higher scoring games and very little defense. My gut would tell me that teams are scoring from outside the 5 yard line more than from within the 2 yard line. I love the I formation but I don't know if it's relevant anymore due to Goodell and his move of no defense.
