Nice fluff piece. But we will see what happens. I do believe that since the voting is by the media that it does put Romo at a disadvantage. I believe he will have to start having postseason success starting this year and the perception changes

I wouldn't even say he's close right now.

I agree but he is on his way. I just think he needs postseason success and at least a SB appearance and that might do the trick. I mean the stats will be there when its all said and done

The quote from the article that doesn't sit well with me is:

"There is only one thing that his critics can legitimately point to that would keep him out of the Hall of Fame: the one stat that actually counts – rings. "

I wouldn't say "rings" are absolutely essential, however, 10 years into his career Romo has only been involved in a single solitary playoff victory -- which just doesn't cut it for HoF -- I don't care what his stats are.

Marino, Kelly, Fouts, etc never won a Superbowl, but they won a lot a ton playoff games, played played in conference championships, and in the case of Marino and Kelly played in 5 collective Super Bowls.

Maybe the one HoF QB outlier that Romo fans could point to in terms of a QB with a <somewhat> similar career trajectory is Warren Moon. He only won 3 playoff games. However, the fact that he was basically denied the opportunity during the 1st half of his career due to his color I believe contributed to him getting in.

Romo does have some time left to remedy all of this. I'm not sure playoffs wins will get it done -- I think he needs a Superbowl victory.

If his career ended today, he has 0% chance to make the Hall of Fame. If he plays 3-5 more years with deep play off success then that may very well change. I honestly don't think Romo gets in unless he wins a Super Bowl, but I do think he's one heck of a QB.
,
No play off success = No chance at HoF

Deep play off success = Slim chance to border line at HoF

Super Bowl win = He walks into the HoF

He has the stats, and he's been around a top 5 QB since he's been in the league, he just doesn't have any play off success to back it up. Whether that's his fault is or not doesn't matter, his media perception will only change with a SB win. Peyton is proof that a Super Bowl win will cure all the negative perception about your lack of playoff success. I'm sure some will say "there's no chance even if he win's a SB", but those are just the haters. All of this talk means nothing though, because until Romo gets a SB win people will just consider him a "very good QB who couldn't get it done".

It's not out of the question IF they can have some deep playoff runs in the next few years...and hopefully win the whole thing!
Otherwise, I doubt it.

Romo has ben a starter for 6 full seasons, so there is hope.
This 10 season crock of garbage is a flat out lie

Romo needs about six/seven more playoff wins to even be considered. A SB win would greatly increase his chances. As of now, no chance :(

His first season with the Cowboys was 2003 right?

2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.... I count 10 years so far.

Not sure what prompted you to call me a liar.

Maybe that was harsh, but unless you have a huge agenda, you cannot possibly count 4+ years of not even playing.
No big deal

If the media liked Romo they would be talkin about how good he could be with a more complete team instead of making up stats. I've heard the media point this out with other teams many times just not in Toxic Texas.

He wouldn't even be considered now. You wouldn't hear his name mentioned during the voting process.

I'm cool man.

I do think you have a point that Romo sat on the bench early in his career, however, since we are talking the Hall-of-Fame here I think it's fair to actually consider that as a negative strike against his HoF credentials... ie he wasn't good right away -- it took him to develop -- quite a bit of time. If he was a clear-cut HoF talent, he more than likely would have been starting on Day 1 kind of thing because his talent would have been some obvious that coaches couldn't ignore it type of thing.

I don't hold any of that against Romo -- he has been an incredibly productive and good player. I'm just saying when it comes to HoF, it will hurt him.

Like I said, as of now, there is no chance. If he ends his career at one playoff win and his stats continue to rise while breaking more records, he still will not get in, maybe some consideration but that won't last long IMO.

Perhaps but I think a lot of that was BP being stubborn. I think Romo should have been starting in this 3rd season instead of Bledsoe. I think it was ridiculous that he wasn't starting at the start of his 4th season when he was outplaying Bledsoe by a very large margin. BP just had so much faith in Bledsoe and Romo had no pedigree.

dstovall5, this is exactly my view...I expect he will have success, but alot hinges on that...

The guy I'd compare him to in that aspect is Archie Manning. Manning was on some lousy teams, so he didn't have the success to back up being a two-time Pro Bowl and one-time All-Pro quarterback.

Give Manning some playoff victories and maybe a Super Bowl victory and you can make a case. Same thing with Romo.

I believe he's Hall of Fame caliber based on his standing among his peers, but without the playoff success, he can fuggedabowdit.

Its going to take a lot for Romo to be considered. The perception of him does not help him. I think two rings gets him in. Anything less, nope.
