I completely disagree. In fact, it irks me to no end when people describe Tony Romo as celebrity QB as if he did anything to cause that.
The part that drives me bonkers is that the media member who is saying that is the one currently stirring the pot.
Who made him into a "celebrity" QB? You(the media) did!
There are some things that Tony may have done to influence his status symbol but for the most part, he is the media's creation.
REASONS TONY ROMO IS A CELEBRITY QB:
1. Let's get this one out of the way first as this is the only reason I see that Tony has any control over.
He dates hot, high profile women. So...what LIAR on this board would say they would not do the same if they were in the same positon as he is in? He can so he does. He walks in different circles than most of us. Why is that you asked? Because...
2.
He plays the highest profile position on America's highest profile team (apologies to NY Yankees) in America's most popular sport (apologies to no one). In today's media age, if you are the QB of America's team...you will be news and cameras will follow. They follow Romo a little closer than recent QBs because...
3.
He is actually a good, young, exciting player. He breaks records, and plays an exciting brand of football. The Cowboys are relevant to the media again. The story for the media is more intruiging because...
4.
He is a good looking( so my wife tells me ), fun loving guy. I mean if Romo looked like Pat McQuistan, the camera's would not be so eager. To further the media's interest...
5.
He is a great story. He came from nothing to NFL stardom. He (like GloboGym founder/owner/member White Goodman) created himself. People love to read about success stories that came out of nowhere to beat the odds.
So when I hear this crap about him needing to stop being a "celebrity" QB, what's he supposed to do wear a face shield ala Michael Jackson?, be a hermit, or move into the Ranch full-time and never leave the premises?
Nah, my advice to Tony would be to say
"Screw ya'll! I live and breathe football, I practice hard and spend more time than most guys at the Ranch. I give back to the community during my off-season while I am preparing my body and mind for the upcoming season. You( the media ) do not know or seem to care how much I am doing to get better and lead my team to a championship. You will write what you write to sell papers, that's your job. It is impossible for me to please everyone, so as long as I have my team first, (which I do) I will continue to live my life the way I see fit!"
